Tricky tach

My 2012 Z4 tach seems to have a mind of its own.The other night it would not go below 2000rpm.It idled at 2700 rpm. When I shut it off it went down to 2000.I started it numerous times and the same thing each time.If I have to buy another instrument cluster, and it’s a used one ,can bmw reset the mileage to what I have now,or can I do it myself?
