Going to stay at SeaWatch Resort because they have two bedroom rentals available oceanfront which means in the evening we can put the kids in one room, shut the door, and still watch something or sit out on the balcony and drink after they go to bed.

That said, I've still implemented an early bedtime for my kids - they are in the bed by 8:15pm - even the almost 9 year old (who is starting to ask to stay up later). But that gives us some separation time to become human again for the next day.

$9k is really not that bad,I thought it would be worse. We just spent 5 days in NYC, well 3.5 days plus travel. Total, all in including taxes, tips and exchange at 40% ............ nearly $8K. What a fucking joke. Wife has a desire to burn money, what a shit idea.

Yeah not terrible I suppose.... but I did give them a budget of $10k. I'm sure they would have loved to have me open up my wallet even more.

$9k was enough for us to stay in one of the deluxe resorts.... away from the.... other clientele

yeah...i forgot to comment that at least you got quoted for a couple of nice choices WRT resorts. i've stayed in both the contemporary (business trip / convention) and AK lodge (family trip). they're both great choices. we havent stayed on property since about 2008, so i dont know what the transportation options are, but it was pretty cool / convenient having the monorail right there in the building at the contemporary. just make sure you're on an outside-facing room! also, not sure how the polynesian resort compares price-wise to your two options, but we really liked that location as well.

Good to hear! I've never stayed on resort, so this'll be my first time. I've been to Disney World 3 times in the past and have always gone the cheap as possible route with staying off property. Now that this is the first time going with my kids, and my daughter's been going through this princess phase, figured I'd make this "magical" for them (more so due to pressure from my wife).

For the contemporary we were quoted for a water-view room, and for AK we were quoted for a savannah view room.

Please take your wacko beliefs somewhere else. This is generally a nice discussion here.

Trust me... as soon as I typed that I vomited a little in my mouth and then decided to add the disclaimer that my wife was pressuring me into this.

I will post what the VIP experience is like when we do it in 2024, was going to do it this fall but then the wife dropped $15k on tickets for her & kids to go to Switzerland. Think its an extra $1000/person on top of the passes, I would never do it, but the wife is all for it and makes the big bucks.

I was looking into that. Think they charge an hourly rate based on peak/non-peak times and if you go with a group you can split the cost (can't remember the limit of # of people per group, and everyone counts including infants).

We decided to forego it... just seems a bit much already and to add this huge expense on top of that.

For die-hard car enthusiasts, there is really only one thing that will peak your interest in all of the Disney properties - Test Track at Epcot.

There used to be a Disney Speedway where they did some Exotic car track experiences and NASCAR experiences, but the exotic car program would unsafely run in a backward configuration and an instructor was killed by bad guest driving which was the nail in the coffin for closing the track. I think it was turned into overflow parking.

Bargain. Where else can you spend the whole day standing around waiting in lines for hours for the privilege of going on a 3 minute ride from 1970 that smells like mildew. I say Disney should double the price.

I'm not sure they are wacko beliefs, man. Probably more like observations from a local. Disney property, especially in Florida has gotten really bad. You really have to watch your kids close, watch what they see, watch who talks to them and who interacts with them, etc. My last trip last year, there was A LOT of graphic public displays of affection from the LGBT crowd within the parks. This is tolerated and the new normal at Disney. There was a man dressed in Spandex with a huge bulge pretending to be Elsa from Frozen doing a meet and greet with a sign that said "Holigay" - this was around Xmas. I don't know if it was Disney sanctioned or not, but it was inside the park.

Universal seems to be a much better option these days, but less to do, and less exciting for sub 8-year olds.

I would choose Animal Kingdom lodge all day any day. There is nothing cooler than walking into your hotel and seeing enormous giraffes out the window. The contemporary is kind of a dump with the only advantage being access to the monorail and quick access to Magic Kingdom. You'll spend more time on buses staying at AK, but the hotel itself will be much more memorable. I think it's one of the coolest hotels in the world, actually.

Sorry I had you pegged as CDN, so $9k is what, $15K with exchange, hidden taxes, tips etc. Maybe more.

yeah that's nuts.

yeah great points here. i would check reviews or some of the disney-dedicated blogs out there to figure out when some of these resorts have had their most recent refurbishment. i sometimes think the emphasis on some of that stuff can be overblown, but if you're staying for a full week it could make the difference in an enjoyable stay...even if you're really only sleeping there since you'll be out and about ~15 hours / day.

That lodge sounds awesome. Yeah the Contemporary used to be cool like 20 years ago but if you want monorail access stay at the Grand Floridian. it's really nice and has some awesome pools.
