Personally, I don’t think Max had the pace for an extra five seconds cleared. He never even really challenged Hamilton after handing the position back.

Hamilton won fair and square, there’s a reason he’s arguably the best ever. I hope RB can keep it competitive this year, the sport needs competition badly.

My thoughts exactly. In the interview after Max said he didn't have the tires (read: pace) anymore. No way he could make up 5s without being able to pass Ham in the first place. What makes me lough is that pretty much every one except for 2 imbeciles here can see this.

Guy. You're beating a dead horse. If Max had been doing the same thing the entire race as well, and red bull hadn't said something on the radio, neither of them would've been warned. Then, Max STILL would've had to give the place back for passing off track.

If you want to whine about Hamilton being more clever than Max and going faster until told not to, then just say it's not fair that Hamilton was more clever. Case closed.

There was no pre-race directive excluding exceeding track limits at turn 4.
Horner told Verstappen to exceed track limits at turn 4 the same as Hamilton.
During the race, Race control told the Mercedes team that if Hamilton continued exceeding turn 4 track limits he would get a penalty so he stopped.
Verstappen continued to exceed track limits.
Of course all irrelevant to the issue of overtaking while off track.
Imagine the crying and bunching of panties if the roles were reversed and Hamilton had passed Verstappen off track and was not told to give the place back!

They were free to exceed track limits except when suddenly announced overtaking at T4 not to exceed limits when overtaking in progress? What's the difference except selective directive that came into play there while hammy was still leading.

The rule has always been so.
Hamilton lost a race at Spa for overtaking off track...even though he gave the place back...because it was decreed that he had gained a lasting advantage.
Same Verstappen at Austin when he overtook Kimi...he got a time penalty.
I do agreed that Race Control made a bit of a dogs dinner of turn 4 track limits during the race. But after Horners radio call to Verstappen about it, Hamilton was told by Race Control to stop doing it and he did.
What more was he supposed to do?
Track limits and overtaking off track are separate issues.

When I was watching the race, I even wanted Max to pass Hamilton to go on and win. You cant be so blinded by love/fandom/patriotism/whatever, to not see the BS and think for yourself. It was a good race, but Max didnt win and the world isnt against him. I want to root for Max (and others), but sometimes his fans make it tough...
