Maybe we could compile a list of dealers to recommend to others based on location. That may be a good sticky. That way, we can give a deserved business to those they understand the customers.

So let me get this right..... So far three of us have had the software update to fix the stalling and in all THREE cases they have broken something else in the process causing us to have to either keep loaners for several days while they go get parts or go without our cars. Did I get that right ????
Now, I am scheduled to have mine done on the 30th.... Decisions.. Decisions... Do I let them do it or just live with the issue ???? Think I will have a discussion with the service manager up front and let him know what my expectations are and what my reaction will be in ADVANCE...... That way he will not be surprised when I ask for a NEW Z4 to use until it is completely and satisfactorily repaired instead of the old rikety 3 series loaner they give out.... I am retired and have PLENTY of time to PICKET BMW and the dealer for incompetence !! Can't believe that I was stupid enough to buy a third BMW after having dozens of issues with my 330Cic and my 335i cab that, in all cases they were unable to resolve and just gave me bullshit responses as to why ........ I feel like I just keep bending over..... They must be laughing at all of us behined their closed doors..... Not sure about the rest of you but I think I have had enough..... I love the cars and the marque but for the price my expecations are quite a bit higher than what I have received from them over the past 7 years !!

I just had the problem today driving out for Lunch after my car was baked parking under the sun. The AC was running full blast and the car stalled at a stop sign while I was driving in sport/manual mode. After reading all of your results. I am hesitating to take my car in. I'd rather wait for a formal tech bulletin with correct instructions for the tech to do the programming.

I'm beginning to wonder if BMW isn't having some kind of meltdown!
Just over at the X6 forum and they are have similar if not worse software and engine management issues, cars being built without all the parts and not being able to get parts from Germany. Quote:

Well I can live with the problem for now: If it is very hot out, I will take the top down and drive without AC.

i drove the car this weekend in temps near 100, never got a stall, and the shifting in sport mode is smoother. the rpms never drop below 500 when coming to a stop. i think the issue is solved, but naturally cannot be 100% sure.
as far version information, the bav tech tool is near worthless. for the engine computer, the sw and os version always read out 0.0.0.... (before and after update). also, the saved ecux files are seemingly meaningless. if you use bav tech to read in a saved ecu file (one that it just created), nothing is shown. they say they are simple xml files but if you use an xml reader to look at one, it will complain of illegal characters. |

Car has been in the shop for a week. The dealer has almost had the car as long as I have. =/ The radio module should be coming in today or tomorrow.

Took the car in today and I could not reproduce the problem... Had the car is sport mode and turned the AC to the max. The car would not stall. The weather must be a factor... Or does the engine need to be cold. When I had the problem, the engine was cold.

Ok got my car back today with the updated software. So far so good. Not had a chance to try sport mode due to rain here. I'll try to see if I can switch back and forth on light driving to see if the issue is fixed or not.

HOORAY !!! My friends at BMW have not let me down !!!
Programming UNSUCCESSFUL !!! Everything screwed up !! Excuse, "must be something wrong with the computer - we have to contact BMW in Germany"........ So I had to LEAVE it there !! What amazes me is that this is my THIRD BMW in 7 years through TWO different BMW dealerships in TWO different states. ALL THREE cars have had issues requiring the car to be left for several days when they tried to re-program. One car had to be left on THREE different ocassions for program updates over a two year period. Cannot wait to see how long they have my car to get this working...... Hope you all have better luck than I am having with this stalling update.

That is very common. Apparently there are more than 20 systems that get updated code. If any one has an issue, the whole thing fails and they have to report the error back to Germany and try again the next day.
