Windshield replacement XYG brand good?

Anyone did it? Any recommendations how to proceed?

Need to replace the windshield on my 2011 Z4: does anyone know who is the OEM manufacturer for the glass? Is XYG any good, same as OEM? TX.

Edited: was asking about FYG but actually the insurer's glass brand replacement is XYG.

When i got my Z4 in 2016. Pretty much the first thing i did was insurance claim a new windshield. As my car was already 7 years old and insurance usually would not use OEM parts and probably would get a cheaper B-level windshield for cars that old.
What happened was that i got OEM windshield. Shop that did the replacement said that its so rare car its easier and cheaper to get OEM windshield than get aftermarket part. On mainstream, popular cars that would not happen.

When i get to my car i can check the writing on the glass. It had BMW logo on it and i think it was Carlite brand under it. Will confirm later.

I had pretty much same experience as KennyP when I got my 2013 used in late 2014. It had spent some time in Arizona and the windshield was sand-pitted so I made a claim on my (AAA) insurance policy and they replaced it with OE (Guardian part# 43R-000168) glass, no questions asked.

Tx guys. I found out for me my OEM is Guardian but I heard good things about FYG (insurer's designated glass brand) and they are pretty much OEM for many manufacturers nowadays, so going w that since don't wanna pay crazy extra for supposedly no real difference and they have lifetime guarantee against repairable damage. Will see how it goes.

Guardian was taken over by Carlex a few years ago. Saw news about it dating back to 2014.

Also saw this post on other forum:

Quote:
guardian(oem windshield for audis) has been taken over by carlex which includes takeover of guardians oem business including Audi. I just learnt about this today as I had similar circumstances and my oem windshield (guardian) was replaced with a Carlex windshield as I had requested for an oem replacement
So its all the same I have same Guardian part number 43R-000168 on my windshield. Only logo is Carlex.

Anyway, misheard the store, it's actually XYG not FYG. Seems like perfect fit, no distortion, etc. We'll see how it goes.

Try running your hand accross the base of the screen on the outside and see if you feel any "waviness" or lumps. Strange thing I noticed on mine after having it replaced with Guardian glass a few years ago. Almost as if the glass transmitted the uneven surface of the underlying cowl. Has never caused any problems; just feels kinda' strange when I wash the windshield..

Tx for suggestion...unfortunately, I have no reference pt since I didn't do that w my OEM so not sure what I can draw from that. Anyway, don't wanna jinx myself, seems like they did a good job and I don't see any imperfections. *knock wood*

Here's a pic of my OEM and new glass labels in case someone's in the trade and can decipher what the various stuff means:

http://www.carwindshields.info/winds...20the%20glass.

According to this.. markings that say anything about the quality or type of the glass are AS1 and "//" marking... and they are the same.

All other are
certification number for manufacturer (DOT)
Manufacturers model number ( M**)
European country that did the certification ( E1 is Germany)

Other markings on XYG im thinking are to do with country of origin:
DOT563 SHENZHEN AUTOMOTIVE GLASS MANUFACTURING P.R.O.C., CHINA
So other markings are maybe for Chinese market or for other asian markets. Who knows.

I have to note that Guardian and Carlex glass have same DOT22 :
DOT22 GUARDIAN INDUSTRIES CORP AUBURN HILLS, MI, USA
