Golf apps

Playing golf yesterday one of the lads was wearing one of those Garmin golf watches to tell you the distance to the green etc.

Anybody else using them? Rather than buying a specific sports watch such as the Garmin or the TomTom golfer, I'm seriously thinking about buying an Iwatch which can then be used with various apps for different sports (such as strava etc)

Anybody know of any good apps for the iwatch? It seems that rather than release an app everyone is just releasing their own watch.

I've had coworkers use the microsoft band golf app and people swear by it. I'm just not willing to invest in a microsoft band. Kind of hope they do something better for the apple watch though since I already have one of those.

I've downloaded an app called hole19 for my iPhone. Seems to have good reviews and is compatible with the iwatch.
Going to give it a go on my phone first before I invest in the watch.

Golf aside how do you rate the iwatch if used for fitness/sport? If I bought one it would probably be my daily watch for the heart rate monitor etc.

I bought it when my Garmin GPS watch broke. What I didn't realize at the time is that there isn't in a GPS chip in the Apple Watch, it actually relies on the phone for that. When I run outside, I typically leave the phone at home. The watch somehow approximates it pretty well though. I have a routine that I know is exactly 5K, the apple watch will actually log it at around 4.85K. Close enough for my standards but if you are looking for precision during a run/walk that might not be good enough.

For daily use though it's fantastic. It has a pretty good calorie tracker and reminds you to be active. Heart rate monitor is great too.

I use swing by swing in the Android store. Been using it for years with no complaints.

My dad, who golfs nearly every day, used to use a garmin. Hes now moved on to just a bushnell laser scope and says he likes it way more.

Must admit I was very impressed with the Garmin a client was using. I just can't justify that kind of money for something with a very limited use.
I may wait until September for the iwatch2 in the hope that it is waterproof and has its own GPS

I use Golfshot Pro with my Apple Watch. Works pretty well. Large database.

Most serious golfers go with a laser range finder. Much more accurate. I never trusted GPS, and I also am not used to wearing a watch while golfing.

On a side note, I do like the Tag Connected. I wonder if they have any apps.

I just use Swing by Swing. Seems decent, keeps the handicap, and I don't need to carry something on my wrist.

At the minute I'm using hole19 which is plenty a accurate enough for my shots.
I also like he adjustable bar so I can very easily change the distance to specific course features rather than being fixed with the green like some are
