Hello again, sorry to bother you and no rush to reply. I followed your bimmercup mod video and it looks terrific. After I put the console back together my seatbelt reminder will not stop, whether I am buckled up or not, passenger side too. Maybe I am crazy but could I have done something, is the reminder somehow tied in to the bottom of the console that I removed?

Its spring 2024. Pricewise, I picked mine up for £368 (+ £15 cashback).
One of the lowest prices on AliExpress. They had a sale on too, knocking it down by 65 quid. Generally these go for about 500, so keep an eye out for deals. I do prefer the looks of the ID4 cluster, but its twice the price. Hopefully in future updates this cluster will have some unique skins. Last edited by mittu; 04-17-2024 at 07:31 AM.. |

Dave, you sound pretty clued up on these. Quick question for you:
My car's a 35is, tank size 55L. Should I set it to 50L (26,24), or can I safely increase it to 55L? |

I would keep it as 26, 24. I've checked and although there are two tanks, one is for leaded fuel and one for unleaded, tgere us no difference for the 35is

Hey Dave, I know you removed your instrument cluster but what are your thoughts on the best one out for the E89 right now?

Well I've only had direct experience with the one I fitted and used (7 months, and about 7000 miles!) that was Acarnavi. There are some on Aliexpress, but my only concern there would be after sales backup, as sellers on that platform tend to be drop-shippers and have no technical knowledge at all, so you're sort of on your own. And as for the ID4MOTION one, well this requires a lit more cutting and work to get it to fit, although it does look a little more integrated with more options.

Dave raises a valid point about purchasing from Aliexpress.
You might score a cracking deal like me, but factor in it only comes with a 3 month warranty, and you'll be on here looking for future software updates. I'm ok with with the compromise. Can't have your cake and eat it too! Having said that, this cluster doesn't even come close to the id4motion. I'm pretty underwhelmed by the quality of the themes (software is up to date). Once you see videos of the id4motion, the graphics on this unit feel craptastic. You notice all the poor design choices and lack of effort as soon as its switched on. Themes, animation/transitions, attention to detail, layout, features, graphics, menu, smoothness, etc. are miles behind the id4. I just wish this had 1 or 2 nicely polished themes. The more you stare at it, the more you notice all the things that are slightly off. There's no question which is superior... but the ID4 does cost a lot more. ID4motion themes are top tier, super polished and offer customisation. The makers of this Chinese unit need to spend some time on design and graphics. If they cant do a decent job, at least copy the competition or OEM (to a good standard). If you're looking to spend 400-500, get this one. But if your budget stretches to 700, without a shadow of doubt buy the id4motion! Last edited by mittu; 04-18-2024 at 07:33 PM.. |

Thanks for the demo. All their themes seem thoughtfully designed and super well done.
A mix of analogue and digital options. I like their Hyper Grid and Orbit drift theme. |

They are very nice so,e themes such as Hyper Grid are only available for older BMWs with the bigger screen..pity..I like that one too..maybe one day..

On the ID4motion does it correctly record the mileage as well as allow you to make service maintenance updates back to the cars ECU?
I purchased the Chinese version just for fun but I also swap between the original sometimes as it only takes 5 mins to do. |

It’s pretty spot on for speed / distance as you enter diameter / width / aspect ratio of wheels into it as part of initial set up.. Clocks losses a minute a day though..

Yes I will do..in part because I did several mods at the same time I’m having issues confirming what is causing what issues..I don’t want to dis ID4Motion on things that are not their issue..having said that with hindsight I can help others now..so will do an interim right up soon..

Hi all, I’m really interested in fitting one of these (and an MMI) but don’t have much confidence in self-installation. Can anyone recommend or advise anyone that could do it for me or help me. Based in Berkshire so anywhere south midlands / south and into London would work? Many thanks in advance

I can fit the Chinese one and the mmi box, but I'm a little further away, Grantham in Lincolnshire. I've done a few of the digital clusters and loads of the mmi boxes as this is what I do as a sideline, as well as cruise control 👍

For those using the ID4Motion cluster. Does it display the actual speed or the default speed (which is like 3MPH over actual)?
This setting can be chosen when you turn on the digital gauge in the stock cluster. Thanks! |
