Wheels/Tire combo question

I'm pretty newb when it comes to wheel/tires sizing.
I have a 2011 3.0 with 17" wheels square setup 225 wide.
Car is all stock.
Trying to figure out if I should upgrade to 18 or 19" wheels. I see the popular 19" setup but I'm thinking in getting a setup with thicker tire and as flush to the body as possible. I daily drive the car.

What do you think of my setup?

BMW 437M replicas rims in 18x8.5 ET35, 18x9.5 ET35
Michelin PSS 225/40/18, 255/35/18

good to go.

Will fit just fine. I have similar offset 3 mm diff in rear on same width rims and run 265 wide rear tires.

Check out this post to see picks and more details.

Thanks I finally got the M4 style wheels in gunmetal/polished in 19" with Michelin PS 4S 265/30/19,235/35/19 and couldn't be happier with the ride/fitment and look.

Amazing work!

I am doing the same to mine this week.

M4 original wheel 9j front , 10j back, 40 profile front, 35 back. I hope no surprises regarding fit.

Maybe 10mm spacers back.

Are yours the Genuine M3/M4 9j front / 10j rear or the smaller aftermarket 8.5 j front and 9.5 j rear?

Cheers

OEM m3/M4 wheels fit fine. I have ran both 18” 513M and 19” 437m versions. 245 max in front and 275 max in rear.

I prefer the 18” over 19”. Better ride, lighter, and cheaper/wider selection tires.

18 inch is the way to go

18 inch with 225 front and 255 rear. Much cheaper and better ride. I run all season tires fall thru spring. 4 rims cost $650 and tires cost $500. Or just use stock rubber. I hate runflats

Also have replicas

If going with replicas. The offsets are different than stock. I would suggest only 12mm spacers rear and its a must to run 12mm front. I tried 15mm rear and they stuck out just a little to much. I will take a picture from the rear to show you stock 255s on rear with replica rims and 12mm spacers. Will post later

Why would replica or not make a difference? Isn't 35 ET a set measurement?

Here is a photo of mine with 18x9.5 ET 35 and 255/35 PS4 rears, no spacers

offset explained

Lets start with stock rear 18 inch (19 inch similar)
18x8.5 with 40mm offset , as you know the wheels are tucked in to much and would look better with 15mm spacers. (a tad over 1/2 inch)
Replica Bmw 18inch rims
18x9 with 38mm offset that means wheels are 1/2 wider or 1/4 on each end. They will fit perfect. The extra 1/4 inch (or 6.4mm) will not matter on the inside of rim (no rubbing). On the outside the rims will be 1/4 inch wider (6.4mm) and since the offset is now 38mm, a difference of 2mm from stock offset, the rims will now stick out 4.4mm. Hardly noticeable from stock and can benefit from 15mm or 12mm spacers. I used 12mm.

front offset

Front Stock oem 18 inch rims
18x8 29mm offset
Bmw Replica Rims
18x8 with 35mm offset
Same size rims but with an offset of 35mm, meaning the rims will tuck in more by 6mm. You absolutely dont want that, so just use 12mm spacers to correct it. After that your rims will now stick out 6mm. Get it. Be careful with aftermarket wheels. Do your math. We have all seen cars that look ridiculous with wheels sticking way out as we are driving. The jerkoff didnt check the offsets before he bought them.

I must have misunderstood your post (the one I quoted in my first reply). I thought you were saying replica rims with ET 35 would have a different offset to BMW rims with ET 35. It makes sense now that you're suggesting spacers if the offset is different.

However, as long as one does the proper calculations or asks for help from knowledgeable individuals about what would fit, it's relatively easy to get a set of rims that fit without needing spacers. In this case, I can confirm that 18x9.5 ET35 with 255/35 tyres will fit without issue or any need for spacers (thanks to forum members for helping me out with this in the past). For reference, my fronts are 18x8.5j ET35 with 225/40 tyres, also no spacers.

Personal preference

Yes you don't need spacers. But you might like the look with them. I love an aggressive rear. I dont have pics from the rear but mine looks quite aggressive.

Which rim style is that? Is that 437? I like the look of those. And where did you purchase for $650?

We have the factory 19" on ours, and I am so tired of the wagon wheels. Coming off run flats helps quite a bit, but still want to go down to 18" wheels.
