Bluetooth pairing E89

Can someone direct me to a post or other link for pairing my phone in a Z4 e89 2009. The usual 1234 PIN does not work or maybe I just am not using the correct sequence of button presses. I have the base radio without I Drive. I have had it working fine in the past but forgot how it was done.
Are all phones compatible?. I now have a Samsung S7
Thanx

You activate BT through the menu function of the radio. The process is spelled out in the manual (You can access an online version at mybmw.bmwusa.com):

Press the MENU button, then

PHONE

BT

PAIR

At this point turn the right knob to display the car's BT name

Search on your phone for BT connections and select your car's name

You should then be prompted by the radio or your phone to enter the passkey.

Enter a passkey on your phone and confirm it.

Then on the radio select ADD

Enter the same passkey on the radio using the function keys and confirm it. (DELETE will delete the last digit.)

OK

Press twice if necessary.

Thank you GerryC

The trick I was missing was to use the dial on the right side to bring up the BMW car ID. I had the separate telephone manual supposedly for the E89 but it actually referred to menu items that did not appear on my car..
I did not verify this but it seems as though any four digit number that is entered on the phone will work if it is then immediately verified by entering it on the radio. I used 0000.
BTW I logged in with a different user name here today, in place of Impulse89

You are correct. Any 4 digit number will work. It's a temporary passcode to verify the same person controls the car and the phone. Once connected, it becomes irrelevant as the devices exchange BT ID tokens in the pairing process.
