Custom Borla Exhaust

I am puzzled...I wanted to create my own exhaust..I wanted to keep things simple. The plan was to change the mufflers only.
after long search, I decided to get the Borla XR-1.. supposedly a race muffler,i.e. supposedly LOUD one.

I got 2 from Ebay, installed and it made the car MORE QUITE!!!

honestly, the Borla killed all the raspiness.. now though the car sounds more quite, it has a much more deeper tone-something I really like.

so after some thinking, I decided to delete the secondary cats.

this was completed recently, the sound is a bit louder however, the 2 issues below are still killing me
  • how can I further increase the sound? I am seriously considering muffler delete!!
  • The mind blowing thing is that whatever sound is coming is loudest at idle starts reducing the higher the revs. after 4.5 K the car is almos silent!!!

I need your advice guys, as this is not making sense to me, usually the higher the revs the higher the flow of gases and the louder the exhaust (am I wrong)

Before you do a muffler delete maybe try opening the muffler and remove some if the packing, similar to what the e90 M guys do to there stock exhausts.

hmmm, I am bit confused, does the Borla drone, or is it too quiet?

Removing the packing should make it louder. Do you know how many chambers the Borla has?

I feel your pain. When I got catless DPs, the sound was a little louder and deeper. I wanted it to be louder still, so I replaced the stock exhaust with a full Supersprint exhaust (mid-pipes + axleback). To my disappointment, there was absolutely NO change in sound at all from the stock exhaust. I'm still a bit bitter and feel like I wasted $2k

The Borla drones because at certain RPMs 2k-3k the exhaust will resonate and create a loud hum. This hum is amplified inside the car as it travels through the floor to the inside of the cabin.
The car is loud inside but not from the outside

The borla xr1 is a straight through muffler. No chambers.

I understand, I paid a fraction of yours and feels like I wasted my money.

Thanks for confirming my fears, Before I went with borla, I listened for countless hours to the supersprint and eisenmann. But I always felt that they didnt sound louder than the stock exhaust.

The problem, or rather not, is that the ORM muffler is a straight through on both sides. I didn't know that until I cut them.
Not only this, but also the right one (the one with the valve) is not even perforated!!

With the supersprint, do you also feel that the sound is less at WOT?
Does it sound more quite above 4.5k??

I've read from other posts that drone happens in that range. Maybe give it time and let the exhaust break in, maybe it'll get louder. I feel for you guys that dropped 2k and aren't happy with the results. I'm in the exhaust market, probably going custom after speaking with a few members amd watchimg every video on YouTube. ZTEVE has a video of his muffler delete , tou may want to contact him...

Here are a few clips of my exhaust. My setup is catless downpipes, OEM mid cats still in, then straight pipe muffler delete.

Skip to around 3:40 for a quick clip of my car

First of all, you have a SICK Car

I like the power of simplicity, really amazing!

second, for the sound, it ticks a lot of my boxes except for the raspiness but I am willing to live with that.

The MOST IMPORTANT question is does this setup have a lot od drone?

literally speaking, I was out in my car yesterday for 40 mins, my ears are still ringing till now

Thanks Rimos!

You can certainly hear the exhaust while cruising, but it doesn't get to the point of droning. I think leaving in the mid-pipe cats helps with this a lot.
