LCI Headlights on a 2009 35i?
Hi guys, long time lurker.
I picked up a titanium silver 35i the other week and the only thing that has been bothering me so far are those silver lashes on top of the headlights. They date the car way too much and to me it’s just a bad match. Here’s how they look: https://share.getcloudapp.com/o0u8JvPy What are my options to get the clear look? Does anyone have a step by step guide on how to retrofit LCI headlight units? The info on that was scattered so it would be nice to have everything in one place. |

How I did it...
Z4 LCI Headlight Retrofit: Right headlight: 63127348954 Left headlight: 63127348953 Ballast (x2): 63127296090 LED main light module (x2): 63117342174 Other LED module (x2): 63117348935 Screws (x30): 46637659479 Coding done remotely by Niv at BMCoding: support@bmcoding.com If you choose to use him, you'll need this cable: h t t p : / / b i m m e r s o f t w a r e . c o m / c a b l e s He will tell you what software you need (all free and downloadable). A few notes: You do not need the retrofit harness. I'm not sure why that product exists. You need the FRM3 foot module. I chose to purchase brand new products to guarantee a nice outcome. I didn't want one headlight more or less foggy than the other. However, if you choose to buy used headlights, they may very well come with ballasts and modules. Xenon bulbs from your original headlights can be used in the new headlights. You have to remove the bumper to swap the headlights. There is a little rubber strip along the top of the headlight that can be moved from your old ones to the new ones if they don't come with it. This is an expensive retrofit and cost will not be recovered when you sell or trade. Make sure it's worth it to you. It was for me. I think it looks great and have no regrets. LCI chrome side turn signals are a no-brainer if you're doing the headlights and are a quick 5 minute install. |

According to the drawings; yes.
On 1-series and 3-series you can avoid this by tapping a wire in the loom. Most likely that's possible on these also. |

Just a follow up on this... the line over the headlights will illuminate without the retrofit harness. Mine does, and I do not have the harness. I think you only need the retrofit harness if you do not have the FRM3 foot module.
