2E84 2e85 months after water pump and thermostat replacement
E89 z4 35is with 75k miles
I got both OEM thermostat and water pump replaced 4 months ago with OEM parts and today car started overheating when oil temperature reached 250F on gauge. -- DME active codes - 2E84 - BSD, message; electric coolant pump: Missing. 2E85 - BSD, message; electric coolant pump: Missing. Error comes back immediately after clearing them. Coolant doesnt run, even tried bleeding procedure. Also checked 2 fuses (passenger footwell and battery). (And 50Amp fuse under the hood?) Fan starts running full speed as oil temperature approaches 250F and then car loses power Is this electric pump failing again? Or is it thermostat? Symptoms are slightly different from last time. Last time it failed, fan would go full speed and car would lose power within a mile. Now it goes until oil temperature gets to 250 and then loses power

Could be either..there have been examples of infant mortality on new pumps failing shortly after fitment..sadly..

Arent these codes more about ecus not being able to communicate with waterpump? Maybe electrical issue... bad connection... wiring... connector rattled loose or something like that?
Also what pump did you use? BMW branded from dealer or original equipment manufacturer(OEM) VDO pump? Asking because i installed a VDO pump maybe a year ago....

Thanks folks. Figured it out. Oil leaks caused water pump socket to loosen out. It no longer clips in place.
Tightened it but I fear it will untether easily again in few bumps Any tips to keep it in place? |

Should be a positive latch to keep it in place. Perhaps you need a new electrical connector?
