i may want to leave the car with the top down and windows up and just wanted to ask. i know you can lock the glove box, but i was thinking what if i leave my phone in the center console...

I read somewhere that if you lock the doors from the outside the center console locks.

This isn't true???

Oh, It HAS the ability to lock if you have ordered certain special equipment, e.g. USB connectivity or telephone preparation (at least in German models). The lock indeed only works if locked with key fob from outside the car.

Best regards

Have to say that it makes you question BMW's logic sometimes. Wouldn't it make sense to simply have the centre console lock when you lock the car FULL STOP? Not "....only if you have ordered special equipment"?

Just confirmed what you reported by actually trying it before seeing your comment. However, the owner's manual seems to be flagging the console locking as being only applicable if one has "Convenient Access".

Best regards,
Ed

Not while you're driving it doesn't...

Further, if you lock the doors with the top down and reach in to open the center console the alarm will go off... Oh wait. Ya gotta have the alarm for that to work (I do).

Your joking right???

I didn't think the alarm system was that advanced. Internal sonic, radar or infra-red with the top down??

Ummmm No. I'm not joking.

Top down, doors locked, if you reach into my car that alarm will go off. Done it several times.
