Gilroy Garlic Festival shooting

https://www.sacbee.com/news/state/ca...233247182.html

“The final hours of the famed Gilroy Garlic Festival were shattered Sunday evening when a gunman with an assault rifle opened fire on the crowd, killing at least three people and injuring 15 others, according to officials in the bucolic California city 30 miles south of San Jose.

Among the victims, according to NBC Bay Area, was a 6-year-old boy.

The shooter also was shot and killed minutes after the attack began, Gilroy Police Chief Scot Smithee said.”

Heavy.

<sarcasm> I thought that the assault weapons ban in California would prevent these types of incidents from happening? </sarcasm>

Seriously though, this is sad news. Condolences to the victims and their families/friends.....

Wayne Lapierre was at a suit fitting while the garlic festival massacre was going on.

Another senseless tragedy.

Always keep your head on a swivel, folks. You never know where the next incident could be: At a concert, at a bar, at church, at a fair/festival, simply walking down the street.

My thoughts go out to that poor family who lost a kid. Makes me sick.

Hopefully they can piece together a motive soon.

Saw this on the news first thing this morning. Terrible. I'll never understand why this keeps happening.

Agreed. This is terrible. I would like to try and understand the mental state someone has to be in. What reasoning could you have to opening fire on a random group of people who have done you no harm, and how\why is this becoming so common?

Shooter has been identified - I won't put this heaping pile of dung's name out there - but he was 19 years old.

Sadly, this rarely happens and people go after softer targets. Guess this one wasn't as soft as he thought as he was killed by police less than a minute into it.

So a fictional scenario posed by another poster here about gun confiscation and my response is relevant to this situation.... how?

Too often you're exactly right.

I think the real fight against these attacks will come from studying the "who" and the "why" and figuring out the best way to counteract the action based mostly on those two things.

Guns are tools. This is a behavior problem, not a tool problem.

Our minds work alike. I am continuously putting myself in other people's situations trying to determine what makes them act in the manner that they do. In some situations, I can relate and understand their actions. Sadly, I just can not understand how someone justifies taking other people's lives, and injuring others, randomly by firing into crowds.

Because you insinuated that you would like to exercise some violence towards Mrs Harris.

If her or anyone else attempts it, they would be idiots to not expect a revolution.

Anyways, back to our scheduled thread...

California and other states imposed regulations of the types of firearms you can own as a private citizen. The fact that you think you have to be violent to express your views is disturbing.

Actually, quite fortunate that your humanity and compassion are still firmly in place

Was there any information posted on just which "assault rifle" was used? I saw that DPump got erased or something, but still quoted as going after Ms. Harris in a fictionalized view of the future in which she got elected again and tried to take some sweeping action against (300?) million law-abiding Americans.

Abolishment of the 2nd amendment vs state firearm restrictions... apples to oranges.

Our rights are worth fighting for. Sorry, not sorry.

I think this is an "Americans with guns" problem, which is to say that even sane Americans may struggle with this relationship. How many of us on this site can claim that they relate to their cars simply as tools?
