Saw this and skimmed this morning while on a conference call. Didn't it say somewhere in the article that it was 50/50 and they felt that no further research should be completed? It did say that it would be hard to prove/understand and the 'math' only suggests the probability that it could exist.

However, research continues in a couple of areas: a) quantum physics might hold the answer if we can 'break' the existing laws and force the simulation to show itself, much like overloading our computer's processors and throwing an error, or, b) since a full existence simulation requires a butt-ton (technical term) of compute power, create our own simulations at the quantum scale where we don't need as much computer horsepower.

Either way, this continues to be a philosophical, scientific and spiritual debate going back to Plato and Zhou and more recently Musk (yes I know what that might suggest). For some of computer geeks, it is fun, nonetheless.

Interesting topic for sure. I find it odd how our brains interpret the information received from our senses and forms it's own reality. Long and short of it is, that due to limited understanding, based on our senses, there are many things (more than not) that we will never comprehend.

Quantum physics/Schridinger's cat and whatnot tend to reveal a tiny thread, unraveling at the seem. The fact that particles obey the laws of physics until observed, absolutely indicates that there is huge piece of the puzzle that we are missing.

I have a friend, who is that level of intelligent, that most have no clue what he is talking about most of the time. He has a tendency to follow up most conversations with, "None of this is real anyway, so what does it really matter."
