Z4 Package definition?

I am currently in the market for a used 2011 -2016 3.5i hopefully with less than 60K miles. I do not mind traveling across the US to evaluate a car. However, I do not understand what is included in the various packages:

Sport Package
M Sport Package
Power Package
Heat Package
Premium Package
Climate package
Technology Package
Comfort Package
Could anyone shed light on a description of these packages?

Additionally, I am planning on touring the US with my wife. I recently test rode a 2011 3.0. Its ride was very harsh in comfort mode. The dealer said that may be caused by the “sport” tires they put on?

I am currently searching on CarGurus. Might there be other Z4 sites?

Thanks in advance.

The "sport tire" reference was probably in regard to the Bridgestone runflats that come with the car and most dealers replace with when they get a car in that needs ttires. They ride rough and many owners replace them with non run-flats which ride better, often handle better and last longer (depending on the brand/model) and are much cheaper. The problem is, there is no spare tire in case of emergency.

There's a very good chance most of those "packages" are made up names.

M-Sport package will be just the M-Sport version
Premium Package may be referring to the sound system
And Comfort package will be the Comfort Pack which is folding mirrors etc

This link may help you out a little (or confuse you even more), this is the brochure for 2014 (just Google search for other years)....

I think some of those packages are for Canada or not for those model years anymore. When I was in the market I hadn't come across them, only the below.

M-Sport package:
Adaptive suspension and M-suspension (car is a little (10mm??) lower and you get two damper modes (comfort and sport))
M bumper
M steering wheel

Technology Package:
Navigation

Premium package:
I think..it was better sound system. 14 speakers VS 9 speakers

Heat (Cold Weather Package)
Heated seats
Heated Steering wheel (I didn't come across any that actually had this option though)
All weather mats too maybe?

Comfort package:
Easy entry for doors (unlock sensor)
Keyless Start (You don't have to keep the key in the little keyfob slot)
You can lower or put up the roof through keyfob (you have to be within 10 feet I think -- its been pretty useless for me IMO)

I would highly recommend the M-sport package, comfort, technology. Most cars have heated seats already but without the heated steering wheel.

All these cars come with the same shit tires, they ride rough as hell. These cars are fairly comfortable in comfort mode with GOOD tires. You'll get a little more comfort if you go with the 18 inch wheels over the 19 inch wheels but doesn't look as good in my opinion haha.

Good luck!

Thanks

Thanks for the tire info. I think I can survive w/o a spare. I have driven over 300,000 miles on a motorcycle w/o a spare. Good to know are reasonable option exists.

And thanks for clarification relative to package options. I was quite confused.

Look on AutoTrader and do a CPO search on BMWUSA.com

Also, I wouldn't rule out the 35is, the upgrades on them are worth the money IMO. Larger Brakes, better-sounding stock Exhaust, more stock power (the same power can be gained via a tune on both 35i/35is), and the M-Sport package looks better. However, that is a personal choice.

I thought the IS also had a light weight flywheel like the 1M

The 35i and 35is have different part numbers for the flywheel. However, the part number for the flywheel on the 1M and the 35is also do not match up and the weight is a little higher on the 35is from the 1M.

California Beemers in L.A. . Got my 2014 there. Quality cars and decked out. I bought a lease return a couple years ago and have been very happy with it. Ask for Ash.

M sport is a must in my opinion. Or just go for the sdrive35is. A base 35is will have most of the options and packages a top of the line 35i will have, plus a power bump. I believe it has a different transmission as well.
