How long did your water pump last?

Mine died @206,000km/128,000miles, is that acceptable? Is the new replacement a better design than the OEM? Scary thing, it just failed and the car immediately went into limp mode, shades of when my HPFP+fuel injectors failed years ago.

Any more surprises I should expect which may lead to immediate 'disabled'/stranded mode?

Ours failed at 40K miles. Warranty replaced it. The new was supposedly a different design than the original. Only been 5K miles an d1 year ago, so can't say if any better.

I wasn't driving so don't know if it went into limp mode. Wife called me that temp warning came up and I advised to pull over. Luckily she was in town. I called to get it towed to dealer.

Tranquility, you've racked up a lot of miles on your Z! I remember you from the early days on this E89 forum. I'd say 128K is not unreasonable for most any bolt on part to fail. I had to replace 3 fuel injectors recently at 65K miles.

Yea, that many miles and I'm ok with paying for a replacement. Most other BMWs in general complete cooling systems is preventative maintenance at 60K miles here in the states.

I still think some of the problem us N. Americans have with the cooling systems can be attributed to parking hot cars in garages with no airflow. Most Europeans never have the issues we do...

Cool

The hood is somewhat sealed with rubber gasketing. I wonder if popping the hood release after a run would let the temps go down instead of maybe going up as Lurcher inferred.
Also what is the service interval for coolant change which probably contains a lubricant and would that matter for the pump?
Glad to see that tranquility is enjoying plenty of miles. I wonder if you drive it all winter? (I remember when driving on the QEW was almost like the autobahn in some areas)

I replaced overflow reservoir, water pump, thermostat, all the coolant hoses at 140k miles

My coolant was leaking at the mickey mouse ears connection on one of the coolant line that runs from the top.

So decided its time to go ahead and replace everything coolant part wise all at once even if it hasn't failed, but I know it will eventually.

Buy once at FCP Euro and lifetime warranty!!!
