Thoughts on suspension

Hey all,
I'm dying to do something about my 2011 30i's monster truck fitment. I've done a little research and am leaning towards forking out a bit more money into some entry-level coilovers rather than lowering springs. BC Racing's BR series would be my first pick so far but I'm yet to see them on an e89 so I'm still unsure if it would give me the low ride height I want - are BR's extreme low variants overkill?

If its relevant, I'm running front:19 x 35 x 245 rear:19 x 30 x 275

Any input would help!

Hey man i also have a 2011 30i, im currently on bilstein b12s at the moment (shocks and springs). i’m on 19” wheels with 245/35/19 and 275/35/19… i’ve also been toying with the idea of coils but hear ST/XA coils are better since they are basically KWs with different branding

I've been ready to pull the trigger on those this weekend until I checked out Proboner's issues with his ST's; he complained about his wheels rubbing on the coil seat. Since we have the same wheel width I'm concerned I'd have this issue too.

What makes you wanna switch from springs to coils?

i’ll try attaching pics again when i get home, what’s your wheel spec? i barely clear the front struts with 8.5, 9.5 but depending on offset i know you can fit 9, 10. i also have maybe room for 5/10mm spacers for clearance as well. more about offset that wheel size unless you have 19x9,x10s

as for coilovers, i have multiple wheel sets so the ability to dial in fitment and be a bit lower would be my reason

Just took a look inside the wheels; 9.5/38 offset in the back and 8.5/35 offset in the front.
Mentioning spacers, I'm planning on throwing on some 10mm to see what they look like. The top of the wheel is a bit behind the wheel well and if they help with clearance that would be a bonus.

i am running 8.5 et 31 and 9.5 et25 iirc, so pretty similar specs, what about your tires? i could see it becoming a problem if you have a lot of meat on those, i have half a finger gap from the edge of the tire (245/35/1) to the strut where it holds the spring. if anything though a 5-10mm spacer should give you enough room for proper fitment. i hope bimmerpost will let me post photos this time around…

I like the slight camber - it’s not too bad especially since its oem other than wheels. Hopefully the tucked wheel won’t be an issue when I throw on some spacers.

19/35/245 and:19/30/275. Im fairly confident the spacers would fix the problem if it even applies to my car in the first place. In the case where it doesn’t, it’s gonna suck to ship the coils back and wait for new ones.

with spacers i highly doubt you wouldn’t be able to make your current set fit. which set are you planning to go with?

I have the BR racing coilovers, running on 19x8.5 and 19x9.5 with 225x35 and 255x35 tires IIRC. No rubbing and no spacers.

The dampening adjustment on the front is at the top of the strut under the hood and for the rear you need to jack up the car to get your hand in there as its a ring that's sort of close to the upper middle.

I have mine dialed into halfway on both front to back which makes the ride not too bouncy but still firm.

The ST/XA would probably the best option for the value. However the BC BR coilovers feel like the safer option with their popularity. @Rah-Vee has a nice ride height in the pic and he mentioned having BR's so I might be leaning in that direction.

Fitment looks nice, I'm assuming you're running the standard BR setup - not extreme lows. Is the height at its lowest setting?

Yes that's as low as it would go without the fronts bottoming out and the rear spring sitting loose when jacking up. At that height the ride quality is a bit harsh for most but I've been driving lowered vehicles almost my whole life so I'm more accepting of it than others. And its the regular BR coilovers.

did you purchase the kit with the swift springs? How much more thread remains on the shock body that could theoretically be lowered (both front and back)?
