Said goodbye to my 328i yesterday - Got a killer deal on a Lexus IS300

I know a lot of BMW owners are gonna criticize the predator grille. That's fine. I like it on this model with this color paint.

After a good 5 hours of haggling and driving home once in the middle of it, I am now the owner of a new 2019 Lexus IS 300!

So far I've noticed the Lexus IS a lot smoother than my car was with OEM suspension and of course much smoother than my car with coilovers. Yet, it has very little body roll. Feels like a very tight car.

Interior absolutely destroys BMW in every aspect except lack of HUD. That's fine, the gauges on the F-Sport Lexus make up for it.

Engine isn't as excited to get up and go as the BMW. Tests show the IS turbo is a second slower to 60 MPH than the fastest car in the entry luxury class at 6.5 seconds. You can feel lag that isn't present in the 328i. It's fine for city but I'll notice it trying to pass on the highway. It's totally livable, though. Still a quick car.

Infotainment is very meh on both cars... Tesla ruined all other infotainment centers for me.

So far I am thoroughly enjoying this Lexus and it will cost more to own than my (used) 2012 BMW cost me due to maintenance and repairs. They say you get a good BMW or you get a terrible one. I certainly didn't get a good one.

Good looking car, and I prefer the size to the larger F30 and G20. Hopefully the G20 returns to being a dynamically better car than the competition, something the F30 sure couldn't claim.

Congrats! Love the car. Dig the bumper, the color and the interior. Nice choice. I think you'll be happy with it.

I had a 2011 IS 350. They are great cars. I never had a single issue with mine other than a recall for a spring. Lexus customer service is amazing! During the recall, they gave me a courtesy car without even having to ask, they changed my oil, topped off all fluids, filled the tank with gas, changed my wiper blades and detailed my car all for free.

I'll be getting another car in the spring at the moment I'm considering a GLK 350 as I'd like to have a little more room; on the other end of the spectrum but also considering an Infiniti Q60 and a Lexus RCF.

Congrats on the change, they're solid cars. I had a 2017 IS350 FSport for a little over a year between my BMWs. I love the ergonomics of the interior on the Lexus a lot more than the F30. I thought the materials/build quality, layout, and just overall comfort was better than the 3 series. The seats are the most comfortable I've ever sat in too, I loved them (very subjective topic I know).

My only major complaint with it, was like you, I thought the engine was boring. Lexus has refused to change that same 3.5L for a long time now and it's just outdated. A 3.0L turbo done right like the B58 (and not like Infiniti with the Q60) then the car would be a different class.

Your previous 2012 F30 was the first model year of F30 generation. First model year vehicles have a higher risk of future repairs.

Nice car, especially red interior. I did test drive 2018 Lexus IS300 and found navigation controls, enabled by a touchpad of sorts, to be very imprecise. BMW iDrive controller is much more intuitive and allow muscle memory to take over at some point and reducing the number of distractions.

I'd flat out never buy anything with a touch pad, they all stink.

No touchpad here. Same wheel design as the F30 on the non-nav models. The nav model also did away with the touchpad but it isn't a wheel.

Settings are all more difficult to get to in the Lexus vs. BMW. however... they both frankly are just not good! CarPlay is the only system I have been happy with besides Tesla but Toyota/Lexus has been suuuuper slow to adopt.

You are right. Lexus has a square joystick ala Galaxians. That's what I found to be distracting and imprecise.

Congrats.

I don't understand how the interior "destorys" the BMW though. I have an IS250 and the interior is too boy racer and has a lot of plastic. It's hard to even find these with real leather anymore. I got it because the Bimmer is getting expensive to maintain.

Sure thing Sparky. Just as a 3er is a MINI. At least try to get the whole fwd/rwd thing right before slinging weak insults.

Bro come on Corolla? The IS is a great car. It's not like the F30 was an exceptional BMW either, easily one of the worst modern BMWs ever made.
