At least.

Greed was the catalyst here.

This guy’s life goals fell flat.

He was under a lot of pressure.

You're not the minority opinion.

The minority opinion is the one that whines the loudest.

I don't think people are rubbing one out at the idea that someone died, I think most of us are just glad that there's one less criminal out there.

I'll interpret "glad" as "attained some level of satisfaction", and leave it at that...

My brother says, 'what if that car had sentimental value for the owner? What if it was given to him by his late family member??

Do you think that the impact of that crime would have the same affect on a big corporation as it would have on that individual??

Dont always assume or think that the impact of a crime is necesarily a monetary value, what if the owner had a plan to visit someone who was on their deathbed and missed the meeting cuase of this crime??

Impact of a crime cannot always be equated to dollars and cents'

Then that person would have had to borrow another car, used a second owned vehicle, or rented a car to get to their meeting, all which are an increase in cost in general due to crime. If the car had a sentimental value and for instance the removal or damage to the exhaust system totaled the car, and the owner want's to repair the car for sentimental reasons, he'll have to buy back the car from the insurance company and pay the difference out of pocket to repair the car.

The reason these thieves steal catalytic converters from storage lots of auto repair businesses is because the cars are easy targets. The vehicles sit unguarded overnight. The business owner is not responsible for protecting the car (it's covered by the vehicle owner's insurance), yet it is bad for the repair shop's business because the business then has a reputation that his facility gets targeted by thieves, which results in lower repair traffic, and the business has to develop mitigation plans to prevent thievery at his facility. All that does is increase the repair shops hourly repair rate to cover the mitigation expenses.

At a societal level, which I am addressing in my posts on this subject, crime increases the living costs of those who are not criminals. I've explained it already.

The thief probably stole it from Harbor Freight.

This case just gave angry spouses a way to get back at gear heads.

Oops, the jack failed and the car fell on him.

Be careful out there, guys.

I don't value "stuff" over anyone's life, personally. That said, he only has himself to blame here.

And the thief valued "stuff" over his own life.

Horrible thing to happen for sure. As someone who used to do stupid crap when I was younger, regardless of what drove this young person to feel the need to commit a crime, I guess the punishment really didn’t fit the crime.

I feel bad for this the persons family. We truly don’t know why he needed the money but unfortunately another person will take over. If there’s money to be had, someone will usually find a way to make it.

Just another reason to be thankful for everything you have so you don’t have to revert to a life of crime, unless crime is what helps pay your bills 🤭
