New Cayenne Turbo GT and Walter Rohrl

Just saw this pop up on my YouTube suggestions. He seems to be blown away by it and judging from the way it moves, its pretty sorted. What are you guys thoughts? Is this finally able to bridge the gap from SUV to sport car?

An SUV in my opinion will never be able to fill the gap to that of a sports car. That being said, there are great high performance SUV's out there that do handle well and are good fun, and if there's one to get that does its best imitation of a sports car, its from Porsche and Alfa.

I personally wouldn't go for the Turbo though. Save some cash and get a GTS, that's the sweet spot in the Porsche lineup, you get most of the Turbo goodies and they usually drive better despite less power and the lower price.

Yes, the Cayenne GTS, Cayenne S and Audi SQ8 offer interesting combinations of performance, luxury and price. As much as I would like a V8, I probably wouldn't do it. German V8s have so much precedence going against them. The VAG 2.9L turbo V6 looks quite interesting, on the other hand.

Yeah, a 2 ton+ vehicle that's 5½' high ain't never gonna be any sports car ...

With electronic wizardry one can maybe get an SUV close based on pure performance numbers, but an SUV will always feel like an SUV and a sports car, even an objectively slower one, will alway be 100x more fun.

How so? My E92's V8 was the best V8 I've ever heard and, for me, it was tuned perfectly and inside of the perfect chassis - that vehicle has personality in gobs like none other.

The N63/S63 that's in just about everything high-horsepower BMW sure seems to be a great engine with impressive HP/TQ & cooling ...

What am I missing?

Big fan of the GTS. Wouldn't own a turbo version, GTS was perfectly balanced for what it was, a big heavy truck with a V8 and a clever suspension.

Might get another when the 2021 GTS gets older.

Here is my tip.

Buy a Cayman that you like, use left over money to buy a used SUV.

Thank me later.

I prefer the extra grunt of the Cayenne Turbo over the GTS.

Turbo GT is the likely model nomenclature.

New Nordschleife record for an SUV!

Not a fan of them putting the GT moniker on a Cayenne.

I do love Porsches, just find them so overpriced in comparison to anything else in the market.

You are missing the reliability issues of the N63.

I don't classify the GT or GTS in the same bracket as GT3/GT2/RS.

Now if they called this the Cayenne GT5.... we'd have some problems. Hopefully porsche doesn't sell out like BMW and Merc.

That's because every hood badge is hand made by a veteran artisan and takes roughly 2 months to finish.
