just crazy. fastest 1/4 mile car in the world is a 5 seater for $140k.
Everyone knows the Plaid is insanely quick in a straight line.

But it simply isn't touching a Senna when it is driven flat out around a track. Senna is 3,000lbs, 790hp, and has 800kg of downforce...it is a race car with a license plate.

Now if we are talking about the new Rimac Nevera, then that is a different argument.

oh i agree. its a boat. but i wouldn't completely dismiss it for what it can achieve for lap times. its not going to beat hypercars. but i wouldn't be surprised if it laps faster than some modern sports cars... just because of the sheer acceleration advantage on the straights.

I also agree, no one said, I'd rather have a Tesla over a P1. Perhaps that is the challenge for the roadster or even the Nivera. Who would have imagined this even 10 years ago that we are talking about EV as Hyper cars!

Amazing times…

So it's pretty clear from this short clip that none of these super/hyper cars were being driven anywhere near their limits or potential. The McLaren let the Tesla pass, so I'm not sure this is a fair comparison or representation of performance of any of the cars Tesla included.

The other thing I'd add, a professional driver in a moderate car on a track could likely hose most other drivers in a hyper-car. I think it might have been Leno who compared sex to driving, every guy things they're good at both. If that was Randy Probst driving the Tesla as someone mentioned earlier then all bets are really off. A true test would be a head to head lap time with a pro driver in (insert hyper-car here) and a Tesla.

And in the end, no one cared and we kept drooling over the McLarens.

Just realized this is professional driver Randy Pobst. The guy can drive anything…fast. He was testing the Unplugged Performance Plaid Pikes Peak race car. A fully gutted Plaid S with full aero and slicks. Testing during a private track day with a bunch of Joe Schmo’s driving their personal street cars. Let’s see how it does at Pikes Peak next weekend, good luck to Randy. They had car issues last year with their Model 3 Perf.

LOL. Teleport back 10 years and tell someone electric family sedans will come within 5-6 seconds of the fastest cars money can buy on a track. Their reaction would probably be "Holy shit, that's cool!"

Perhaps instead if you say they'll be just as fast...'DurR nO wAy eVs sUcK pUt tHe SaMe DrIveR iN bOtH cArS tHeN sEe wHaTs faSteR!"

Many of the people who pretend to dislike Teslas also drive SUVs never filled to the brim or lifted trucks which never see unpaved roads. People do shit with cars they were never designed to do all the time...who cares. They're electric family sedans for chrissakes, not performance cars. They just happen to be faster than anything else. That in and of itself should be enough for any "car guy" to think they're pretty damn cool. Instead, it's a threat to their ego down to the core.

I promise it doesn't bother me that my 765 or 2RS will be the 2nd and 3rd fastest cars I have once the Plaid is here...but some of you sure are upset.

Here is an interview with the head of design at Bugatti. He talks about VR, electrification and (also the impact of Elon). One has to think ahead…and Tesla has advanced the status quo, whether we care about the company or not.

You're not wrong in your assessment. I have accepted and embraced that EVs are the future. I personally dislike Tesla for a few reasons.

1. Styling just isn't my taste. They look like older Mazda 6's to me. I hate the massive screen in the center stack, but I need to accept that all cars are going that route. I don't like Tesla's take on minimalist interior styling; not because it's different, but because it doesn't fit the driver-focused aesthetic I prefer.

2. I dislike Musk. I hate his antics on social media, the way he uses pre-orders as interest free loans, etc.

3. I respect and admire the way Tesla has been a major disruptor in the automotive industry, both in terms of drivetrains as well as delivery model. I hate how many new Tesla owners who are not traditionally car guys start showing up at cars and coffee strutting like a big dick in the locker room because they likely have the fastest car there, yet they know nothing about cars, the enthusiast community, and seem to only be there to show off what money can buy despite ignorance.

So that's where I'm at with Tesla. Can't wait for more established manufacturers to release more EV models. Too bad all cars, electric and otherwise, transmit so much data now. That's an industry-wide trend that really annoys me.

Here is an interesting interview with the head of design at Bugatti. Tesla and Musk reminds me of the old Apple ad about the crazy ones….you can mock them, hate them…but you can't ignore them, because they change the world.

This interview is not about Tesla, but the context in which Elon Musk brought up is interesting. Others are DaVinci and Daft Punk!

I understand a lot of people here look down on Tesla, reminds me of how many did the same with Apple and Jobs back in the day. Only time will tell.

I don't know if anyone follows audio. But Paul McGowan from PS Audio has a pretty well known channel that audiophiles follow and the one car he mentioned with excellent audio (best in his experience) is the Tesla Model S.

So while we are making fun of Tesla, they are slowing changing the industry. JMHO.

Yeah, exactly. I've spoken to a fellow Mac owner (who was at the track that day), and he said the same.

Nobody is denying the tesla is fast, but for them to post shit like this is stupid. It's not accurate.

Nothing in the its price range even comes close to the Plaid. What was impressive here is that the Plaid is able to accelerate multiple times without losing performance. That was an issue in the last and they seem to have fixed it in an impressive way. We'll see as more of such tests are validated.

Tesla does tend to exaggerate which takes away a bit from the big picture of how impressive this is. We'll be seeing Model X Plaid vs X5M and Urus comparisons soon enough.

These ice vs. electric vehicles reminds me of the argument for and against digital cameras. Personally I resisted digital because of the quality of digital cameras, as well as their price, obviously. But now that the technology has improved, my film cameras are mostly for display, believing that one day I will make a day out of using one. People slam EVs for much the same reason, but like it or not, they are not going away, and will only improve, until ice vehicles too, become display items.

new post on IG from brooks at dragtimes.

The Plaid is faster than the 765LT, Ferrari SF90, and Chiron on a 60-130 roll. Nuts.
