If E89 Z4M existed with this engine, I think people would buy it... It is going to cost $$$ OP, and I have not seen it done. |

Can probably go buy a 911 for the same price as this mod.

Google Manhart performance, they do the older m3 as long as v8-v10 transplants on the e89. He might have the 23i guys

Yes I agree, take a look at Manhart. Laugh and then move on.
You would have to be absolutely in love with the design of the e89, or be getting it or the donor car gratis from somewhere for this to make some sense. But just so you know, any car that does not have a front mounted inline 6 is not a real roadster in my book. Ok ok, a V12 would be acceptable as well, but why would you need such a long bonnet if you were to use a compact V6 or V8 anyway? |

Not many engines out there with a linear powerband like a S54... People need to stop looking at just peak numbers unless you're looking for the highest number on a dyno.
Both are completely possible, just need to get a standalone that works properly. |

Oh, also Manhart makes turbo upgrades. Manhart is good, they are considered a good tuner/engine builder in Germany.
I will PM you info with another very good reliable solution.

This. A Z4 with the S65 would be ah-may-zing. Slap on the M3 suspension parts and it would be a historic car. The sound of the S65 upwards of 5k RPM is unbelievable.

Speaking of.. OP.. if you are seriously going to throw down this much money on a German convertible engine swap, how about getting a GT3 engine into a Boxster.... |

Plenty of room for the v8 but let's review the math once again:
s65 + tranny + all supporting components (radiators, a/c etc) 6-7000 euros if you're lucky revised harness + unlocked ecu + integration of dashboard readings 5000 euros by awron.de (these are the guys manhart collaborate with for electronics). You could get away with half the price if you choose twincam.co.uk for that matter with a standalone but don't because this is not a race car and you want to have a working dashboard I presume. 1000-2000 euros mounting all that stuff back together in an independent shop plus new engine mounts and plus a new custom cut and balanced driveshaft (add 1000 euros). By now you have reached 15.000 euros in a best case scenario without even touching the diff, driveshaft and rear axle which will require a ton of modification if you select e85/86 m or even e92 m bits in case you won't add a quaife unit and call it a day. |

Shouldn't be any worse than E9X M3 Also, what about starting with a 20i or the smallest engine possible or a 35i or 35is with engine troubles to keep the cost of the body low. It is not a bad idea, particularly in europe, where car prices are hugely inflated vs. US... |
