Here are premature results. I had to stop as my clutch was starting to slip. Just got my new clutch installed and waiting for the break-in period to be done then I will hav eto start over again.
http://www.e90post.com/forums/showpo...5&postcount=89 This time though it will be with the virtual dyno as it correlates with the chasis dyno during the initial testing, and dont want my car hitting 200°f again ![]() |

Question on cold air intake
I'm new to the forum and appreciate the great info: I have a 2012 E89 3.5i/manual with M-Sport and just added the Dinan stage 3. I'm looking at the afe stage 2 cold air intake and curious if anyone has experience with it, install challenges and how it has worked with Dinan stage 3?
Thanks!! |

bringing up old shit I know but...
New style -/+ shifters: Confirmed! Does anyone have any info on that? Mine need replaced because of peeling and I'd like to switch to the regular left side downshift pattern rather than the two way (though I did see a thread somewhere about reversing the wiring on the left paddle) |

That would be a big big project…it would make the handling even worse…getting the various electronic sub systems to work together will be serious work

Anyone know where I can find a more recent thread on mods for this car? I picked up a 2014 last summer as a project car and most things I'm finding online are pretty dated (which is to be expected). I'm thinking of doing one myself as I go through the process of upgrading my Z4.

Are we talking N54? If so.. almost any n54 tuning guide will work for that... with some exceptions... downpipes are a bit different on z4... so is the chargepipe and outlets (i think...?) basically connections to and from the intercooler and pipes from turbos to exhaust are only things different from other n54 cars like 335i and 135i or 1m. Downpipes you can buy 335i items and then do some welding and modding to make them fit. But honestly its easier to just go with VRSF Z4 specific downpipes... Intercooler if you use stock quick connections then all that type n54 intercoolers fit the same as on 335i or 135i... If you decide to get rid of those stock connections and go with silicone pipes then you have to look at z4 specific intercooler kits from vrsf and Wagner. Bigger meaner intercoolers usually get rid of stock connections and have silicone pipes that you clamp in place instead. this is for better flow as the inner pipe diameter is then bigger and allow more volume of air. everything else enginewise is basically the same as other n54 cars and you can follow any n54 guide you want. Suspensionside... e90 m3 controlarms is a must. Or if you want to go more extreme you can use uniball controlarm joints instead of bushings... in the rear upgrade big trailing arm bushings... basically all e46 bushing upgrade parts should work there. Also in rear hub you can upgrade one bushing to a balljoint to mimic e85 z4m or e46 m3 factory setup... from there good coilovers would make a big difference... maybe swaybars aswell... if you get all the bolton stuff on the engine, suspension sorted the way you like it... then you can think about turbo upgrade, adding more cooling, and brakes... upgraded turbos arent necessarily just for more power... they will make power more reliably... if you go full bolt-on and squeeze all you can out of your stock turbos, then those turbos will not last forever... upgraded turbos dont have to work as hard and so they last better.. of course depends on what turbos you get... cheap ebay stuff is somewhat a lottery. i think most of the aftermarket stuff has been figured out for many years now... only a few new things have come out more recently... like b58 coil mod... but not much else... trend is more towards aftermarket parts ending production and not being available anymore due to low demand. Forge diverter valves for example got axed last year. Öhlins had Road and Track coilover kit for Z4 that is long gone now... and so on. I would expect this trend to continue and speed up as e89 gets older and older... Expensive quality parts get discontinued because cars are cheaper now and in the hands of owners who would not shell out top money for super premium parts. At the same time cheaper, possibly lower quality knockoff parts come in to maybe fill the gap. This will probably happen more with more popular models like 335i and 135i... Not so much on the Z4 though as they are rarer and customer base is tiny... So if something for z4 gets discontinued... cant expect some other company surely coming in to fill the gap... And always put maintenance first, mods second. coils, plugs, gaskets, pcv valve upgrade, fuel tank evap valve. mickey mouse coolant flange...vanos solenoids and their screens, boost vacuum solenoids, vacuum lines... i have replaced them all... at higher mileage maybe consider o2 sensors replacement. I just got a new set of sensors to fit during downpipe install. Will have them fitted when i get back from vacation. will see if it makes any difference. im at 85k miles now. Also all the rubber bits in suspension will deteriorate as cars get older... good time to upgrade them then. What else... older guides talk about jb4 tunes and cobb tunes... these are a bit antiquated solutions by now and MHD is the way to go.. if you have DCT transmission then XHP gearbox tune can sharpen its shifts a bit and increase its clamping force... though imo their price is a bit too high for what it is.
