Heard about that from my dad yesterday as well. The rise in Rolex’s popularity and value is making people do crazy things. It is so recognizable that it’s a bit scary to be wearing one. I’d still like a Daytona but would be careful wearing it around.

This is in Japan. They often have all the models on display rather than in the stock room because crime is extremely rare. Japan is a place where if you dropped cash on the floor, you can come back and it'd still be there. That's what makes this so shocking to happen there.

How do you guys go about navigating this process with ADs?

I've got my eye set on a particular Datejust 36. The two ADs I've spoken to so far have been vague, quoting 6-12 months.

Honestly the 'process' isn't really all that difficult. You walk into an AD, ask to put your name down for a particular timepiece. They take your information (name, phone number, etc.) and will call you if/when one becomes available. ADs won't give you much clarity into when that may be. And its somewhat up to their discretion.

During my first experience, I mentioned being new to the area - was looking for a local jeweler to conduct business. Put my name down for a Datejust and within 6 weeks I received a call. I was pleasantly surprised how quick it was. But everyones experience is different. I've also had my name down for a GMT and its been over 16 months already. Others on here have been waiting years...My friend waited 3+ years for a Daytona but eventually got one (mind you he had already purchased a lady DJ, GMT, Sub, etc from same AD - so could just be goodwill and relationship between the two). Goodluck, you never know!

Good to know. I know another AD on a personal level so hopefully that will help out. The Datejust in this certain spec just has me fawning.

I wanted Starbucks so bad in 2 yrs back. AD called me Feb 2023, and I was able to get one for myself. But I have bought black non-date sub, date just (women) and this one so 3 Rollies though..

Great news, AD said he'll have my desired watch next week. My parents have a relationship with this AD hence I suppose I get preference.

The bad news, I had a change of heart and want the 41mm instead of the 36mm he's getting.

Loll. I literally changed my mind over the weekend. The 36 fits perfectly, like a bracelet, but the 41 just has that extra flash. I figure when spending X amount of money already, what's another $1500?

My watch is a GMT II (116710LN). Love the simplicity of the solid black bezel, makes a statement but not an in-your-face statement. Cheers!
