Coding different variables for Comfort/Sport/Sport+
Is it possible to code and change the values that are used in these different drive modes?
Such as using the steering values from Sport in Comfort? etc. Using Bimmercode / Protool or any app necessary. Goal is to get sport steering in comfort mode. thanks! Last edited by etropic; 04-25-2023 at 04:10 PM.. |

Protool can do it. Suggest you go across to *********** where guys with brains the size of planets and tenacity hang out .. Whynot just run it in sports mode..or improve the feel of the steering mechanically ?

assuming your link was spool ? (it got redacted).
The sport mode feel is good. The issue is turning DSC off completely engages comfort mode. Since i'm in Manual it doesnt really matter about the shift points, but it does make the steering instantly lighter than I would prefer it. |

ya this is purely for tracking it. Trying to get it dialed in around my n00b capabilities. But I am struggling with DSC on having it cut at all the wrong times. So much better with it off.
Street wise, I always leave it on ! |

With a Quaife LSD and e-diff coded off and 400 BHP / 650nm seems ok with 275/30 sports Conti 7s

If you are primarily focussed on track use then a plated diff may be appropriate..

In terms of what the OP is asking, I think it’s a perfectly valid ask, The steering is looser than what allot of people like in comfort mode and would be nice if we could change a few values in the coding to make it a bit stiffer, I would need to figure out why my steering isn’t stiffening up in the first place to be able to resolve the coding side of it. |

The more I looked into it the more obtuse and difficult it got..as discussed there are many variables each with it’s set of possible values..you can edit them in Protool (or I guess ISTA) and /or load complete s/w versions.. I have swapped the performance brake option in for example as that was a bmw option although never deployed on the On s p o o l s t r e e t There’s been a very very long discussion on coding DSC variables and lots of reverse engineering..the point of realisation being that without knowing the whole system it’s very very difficult to interpolate results… Of course a good analogue approach works..I used M3 steering linkages plus monoball upgrades with Meyle HD tie rod ends and camber plates with revised steering geometry to get the feel and tightness I wanted.. https://www.bimmerworld.com/BimmerWo...93-M3-E82.html

But I still do want to figure out why my steering isn’t tightening up in sport and I don’t think the suspension is stiffening up either. Could be a fuse as the coding all looks correct and I am not getting any errors. The fact that I am getting a torque reading from the steering wheel in proTools means it is at least functional. |

I increased castor by about 1.5 degrees , front camber by about 1 degree and reduced rear camber by 1 degree..kept toe in front and rear spot on stock.. If the fuse is blown you would get an idrive error and a diagnostic would show ECU offline..

With regards to what is going on with my car then I don't have a clue, there are no errors, my friend has a 2011 Z4 35is and his steering also doesn't seem to stiffen up in sport as well as his shocks too and we have checked on both cars that they are the EDC shocks, they all plugged in, checked in the ECU box to make sure it's all connected and that the previous owner never coded them out which is exactly what I did on my previous car when I fitted coilovers. I need to figure this out. I also went under the car to have a look at the steering rack itself to make sure there was no unplugged or loos plugs, everything is perfect and clean. So this is interesting. |

If there was a fault in the rack you would notice big issues in comfort mode..
I do know that the steering variables were changed specifically for the early 35i/35is compared to others..maybe as the car is so front end heavy they didn’t tweak it as hard for sport mode.. Could be the shocks are shot..mine were but I think they still stiffened up..good hunting

You need to plug the EDC computer back in ..add the electronic damping option back into VO and CAS and it should be fine…you’ll need a decent coding tool like ISTA or Protool to do that…IMHO…as I’ve only removed them..but it should be the reverse process..
