Which School to attend?

I just wanted to get a perspective from some other people.

I got accepted to UC Irvine and UC San Diego. I know these schools are not well know like UCLA or UC Berkeley, but both are still ranked in the top 40 in the nation in comparison to UCLA and Cal at 25 and 21 respectively.

Which has a more common name, lets say in the east coast. If i said i went to UC Irvine or San Diego, which one would be more commonly recognized?

I will not be making my decision based on your answers(UCLA decision is still pending for me), rather just curious. I did get accepted to UC Irvine's MBA school which I will probably end up going there regardless if i get in UCLA>

Trust me. It's not important. Go to whichever school suits you best.

I know, but the whole point is to see how people outside of Cali view UCI or UCSD.

your talking about national recognition? lol sure UCLA is well known, but that's not necessarily because of its academics. all UC's provide great education. as said before, go somewhere that you think you might like & provides the specific education your looking for, and you'll be fine.

Rady or Mirage... that's a tough decision. Both programs place an emphasis on interest in science and technology-driven innovation and change; but Mirage does have a bias for IT and Healthcare.

Rady is fairly new, but that can be a good and bad thing. Good because you may experience a fresh, entrepreneurial culture and curriculum, but bad if you want to leverage your school's name to get a job at a company that cares about names.

Which will have a more recognized name on the east coast? I honestly believe neither schools' names will get recognition outside of the region... it's the MBA that will be transferable.

Good luck with your decision! Sorry if I couldn't give you a better comparison between the two schools. Good luck with Anderson as well, I currently go there

I was always under the impression that UCSD was a bit better, academically, than UCI. Then again, maybe things have changed in the last 15 years...I haven't been keeping track.

I believe undergrad is still ranked higher for UCSD, but grad school is a whole 'nother story.

Not many people outside CA would recognize schools you listed and pretty much careless about them. It's not about the schools you listed, it's just that unless it's ivy league schools or big name schools, people really don't give a crap.
You and your friends are in ages where you guys know alot about schools and they are the major conversation topics but for us, 25+, forgot all about it and never bring that topic in the conversations.

Unless they are big name schools, forget the name value and pick the school that can offer the best curriculum for you. Good luck.

Back in 2002 when i graduated from UC riverside, the top 3 UCs in terms of academic rank for undergrad was UC Berkeley, UCLA, and then UCSD. Maybe UC Irvine has gotten more competitive in the past few years but I would still think UCSD is harder to get into compared to UC Irvine all things equal

Back in college I had friend going to UCSD and SD State so I would drive down almost every weekend. Great weather, beaches, people were friendly, and clean air since it's right by the coast. I only visited Irvine a few times and it seemed more like the suburbs compared to UCSD

what about UCSB, some fun times happen there! and where all else did you get accepted? Are you going as a transfer? I ask because the freshman deadline has passed, may 1st right? Finally, because this thread is so UC biased, I have to inject my allegiance. USC ALL THE WAY!!!! FIGHT ON!!

Im a transfer. I got accepted everywhere but Cal. I also got accepted to the join BA/MBA program at UCI. So i can get my MBA quicker.

I dunno... tough choice... i got until June 1st to make the deicsion with UCLA's decison looming as well.

I'd go to UCSB or UCLA. Sure UC Irvine is a good school, but like you said 'recognized' definitely UCSB or UCLA.

high schoolers always getting caught up in the "name" of the school....and when they end up there they fuck up anyway....so much for your prestigous education.

UCLA is pretty well known and so is UCSD. I think it depends on which major you're going for. For example, some schools have a more recognizable MBA while others have better engineering programs. I would think an MBA from any of the UC's you listed is good. However, if you really want a name behind your masters then go for Berkeley, Stanford or Santa Clara.

Not always the case.. If you plan on doing post undergraduate studies, then that's what they will be mainly looking at.

But to answer your question, I would pick UCI.. Just because I like the location better..
