Remember something was said about the next gen 1-series being rebadged to the "2-series".

Putting 2 and 2 together, I'm guessing the Z2 will be built on the future 1-series aka. 2-series chassis? Gives me a good idea about the size of the vehicle.

Now I'm going to go out on a limb. This 2-series is FWD. I'm guessing the future 1-series aka. 2-series will also be FWD?

well this would be a car i would like to drive in the city with all the traffic you can just sneak between cars, people honking after you...it would be fun..during the week days.
Then I`ll get a 3 coupe.
Then when married i`ll switch to a 5 and an x5 for the woman.
Once 40 i`ll get a grancoupe.
then I`ll be 50-60 and I`ll have a 7 and a z4 beside that for the old days.
There is my life line.

After some heavy flogging done on a 2011 Cooper S a couple of weekends ago leads me to this conclusion: Unless BMW invents some 'magical' chassis tuning or violates the laws of physics, a FWD BMW based on a Mini Chassis is not going to have BMW handling. The MCS was lightweight/fun, but when the boost would kick in, it would torque steer/understeer like crazy. Reminding me of a boosted Civic I had in the 90's. I abhor FWD cars for a reason and it's scary to see the next-next gen of 1'ers will be FWD. They should not be down marketing the brand here in the US. Leave FWD to Mini, Audi, Ford, Toyota, Mazda, etc...!

Good. That makes a lot more sense than building it on the UKL platform, so I certainly hope that they continue in this direction for the production car.

Keep the bimmer RWD. The Mini roadster will be perfect for anyone wanting FWD.

Use the new 4 cylinder N20B20 >175Kw and keep the weight low (1000Kg) that sounds very promising.

Sounds good. Curious to see if the Z2 turns out FWD or RWD. I think I will be signing up for a Z2 or the next (2014)1M.

i would assume that the target weight of 1000kg. would be for the lightest iteration which i believe would be a 3cyl. variant. if true, then a 4cyl. would likely come in at a minimum 1050kg. these of course are only targets but i just wouldn't expect any 4cyl. to correspond to that specific target(1000kg).
