Tx for the well wishes in spite of everything. I'm seeking quotes from the local computer shops....how much would you pay for the service+a new SSD w Win10 and some basic pre-installed prgs (Chrome, wordpro, spreadsheet)?

Oh, I cannot reboot my computer and the error message is *bad_system_config_info*....I guess I can't recover my data from the presumably toast HDD no matter what?

Hey guys, just wanted to say THANK YOU to everyone who helped this IT noob, as I thought my only option was to buy a new laptop instead of switching out the HDD for a SSD; it only cost me CAD160 total and so far so good and also I feel good I didn't have to discard my computer.
