Mysterious rubber circle next to fuel cap—what is it?

Circled in yellow. It’s soft rubber and if I press on it a little bit it gives way. (I didn’t want to poke too hard.) I live in the U.S. and it’s a regular ol’ petrol engine.

I checked the manual, of course, but the diagram doesn’t show anything there. If there’s anyone who’d know what it is, what it’s for, it would be you guys.

I dont know this for sure, but my guess is that's where you put in DEF on diesel models.

That's exactly right. It's for the DEF...parts bin sharing between models.

Thank you all!
This is a feature I always wanted to know about* (*but was afraid to ask)
Honestly, I didn't know about it but cared sometimes.

Have a nice weekend!

Yes, it's opened up if you had a diesel model.

I’m new but this is a great forum. Very “Don’t be afraid to ask.”

Btw, we’ve had four BMWs (X2-4) in the family and I’ve never seen this part. Does mine have it because the 2GC is related to the Mini?

No, the G series (3 Series) has the "dummy DEF" opening as well.
