We had 78s but switched to 33 1/3 before Elvis. By the time he came out, 78s were fading in popularity and it was 33 1/3 rpm albums and 45 RPM singles (actually doubles if you count both sides

Hell, I liked him too. He was The King of Rock and Roll. I liked early Elvis but didn't like Vegas Elvis very much.

I also recall some 16 RPM records, although they were few and far between.

I'd forgotten about them. Actually they were 16 2/3 RPM. We never had any. 78s and then 33 1/3 and 45s during my childhood.

I only had 33s and 45s when I was a kid.

My dad had some 78s with Frank Sinatra and a few other crooners that we would hear when he had a few drinks in him. I didn't mind, I liked that music.

And my grandparents had 78s with the likes of Eddie Cantor on them. I don't even have the capability to play anything other than 33s and 45s, but I have a few CDs of 1920s 'hot jazz' music -- some of which were mastered from 78s and have the clicks and pops -- and enjoy them. One of my favorite recordings of all time is a 1931 Louis Armstrong rendition of St Louis Blues. Wonderful stuff.

Somehow, though, I always come back to 1965 music -- the music when I graduated from high school.

I think that I'm seriously over the hill now, because it took me almost an hour this afternoon to swap the electronics between two vehicle remote control keys this afternoon...under my old-man magnifying/lighted workbench light. Should have been a two-minute job tops.....

So I removed a car stereo from a build I'd done a decade ago (I'm 50 something)

Thought it would take 3- 4 hours. Day 1 took 8 hours and day 2 took 11. Was black and blue from neck to toe and look like I'd been one of those crash test dummies. Completely out of energy due to heart surgery 5 month prior.

Took three weeks for bruising to go. I must be going stupid as I'm looking to do another build, maybe a plug and play system this time around.

In my younger days I replaced vibrators and vacuum tubes in '40's and '50's cars. I had cigarette and cigar ashes fall on face. The back of my head laid in floorboard dirt. My back hurt. And then the customer bitched about the bill.

Did the same thing in my dad's garage as the kid helper. Don't know how he did it, drilling holes in fenders for antennas too.
