Need help with fluids list

I’m going to get a list together for changing oil and transmission fluid.
I’ve tried to do a search on here but couldn’t really find a good solid answer.

Was wondering what brands you guys use and where you usually shop.
I live in Texas and have an 11 35is, and while it’s up on stands, do the trans and engine oil at the same time.

Engine oil wise for a 35is a good ester based oil such as Redline offerings is the premium solution..5w 30 or 5w 40 for your climate..

Gearbox wise it needs a full service kit ..get the ZF original kit includes oil, filters etc ..filling a DCT is a bit tricky observe fill instructions..

Mahle make some of the best filters air/engine wise..

As they say other solutions are available especially if you are budget constrained..

B21-I saw some of the transmission fluid kits online but there were a few to choose from so it got confusing. Thank you.

When I had my Boxster S it had a 6 speed and I had changed the fluid in it. I’m wondering if it’s a similar process

One thing to consider... when i had my DCT service done i also had my rear diff oil changed...

You need the BMW ISTA s/w to bleed the DCT system..it’s not a beginner level process…

FWIW concur on the diff oil although it does tend to suffer less deterioration..

If you search online for differential fluid change interval you will find a wide range of mileage numbers starting from 30k miles up to 75k miles. But most often you will see 50k miles popping up on various sites (FCPEURO blog for example says 50k).

I did mine at about 62k miles.

I took mine to a transmission specialist shop and for DCT oil change they used some sort of dynamic oil change method with a special machine.

I’ve watched a few videos online on changing the oil and the transmission fluid and neither of them look too difficult at all. Just time consuming

You said I need that software to bleed the system, why is that? You can’t just change the filters and drain the fluid?

With manual boxes and diffs you can..it’s splash lubrication and simple ..drain down refill..

With auto and DCT you have to purge the various circuits that have drained down..

On the ZF8HP the process is relative simple, monitor transmission fluid temperature then cycle various gear positions for various periods of time and top up..

On the DCT that process is controlled by the off board diagnostics computer..not by on board ECUs are manual gear selection..

Failure to do so may result in low level of fluid (there is no level measurement) resulting in premature clutches failure as well as maybe other bearing related failures plus poor gear selection and shifting..apart from that it’s fine…

Maybe I’ll have someone do that. It sounds like a lot of trouble

Correct…my trusted Indy tried to do it without the correct tools..I subsequently got a transmission overheat warning…the first and only time…

My trusted indy actually refused to service my DCT and recommended to go to the transmission specialist shop i went to.
