G29 6MT

So, I never expected BMW to bring back a 6 speed manual transmission to the Z4. Hence, I went all in on a loaded E89. But thanks to the Supra, the rumor mill is churning. What are others thinking? Is the G29 6MT going to be a reality?

Apparently so for North America…but the question is why?

Given that the ZF8HP box offers you pure manual modes either via the stock or via the paddles what does a pure manual give you that you can’t do with the ZF8HP box?

Apart from a clutch peddle?

To me the clutch pedal and stick offer a more visceral experience, which I prefer in my "just for fun" car. To each their own. If I liked DCT, it would make my life easier! Wife could drive it then. But maybe that's part of what makes it more fun for me? Haha

Quite so…👌

Maybe you should buy an old side valve motorcycle with manual advance retard, exhaust valve lifter, mechanical oiler, kickstart, clutch lever and gear lever…?

That was my visceral experience…😂

I think BMW would have already announced manual for the M40i if they wanted to.
Supra got manual because Nissan Z came out with a manual. Toyota saw it as a competitor and went on to offer it aswell.
They even had to redesign the whole center console to do it.
Now BMW probably did not see Nissan Z as competition. Different type of buyer. They already have manual in 20i models in Europe so they wouldnt even have to redesign Z4 center console as Toyota did in the Supra. Just use one from 20i model. Also that 20i manual Z4 was initially offered in Australia but got cancelled due to poor sales.

Also BMW probably reserves manuals for their M cars to differentiate them from non M models.

And new Nissan Z isnt available in EU because of strict emissions regulations i guess. So it isnt competing for sales here either.

Yes. I read about the 6MT in Australia getting canceled. So it surprised me when rumors circulated about a 6MT in the US on the M40i.
