2014 E89 28i power band question.
Hi all.
My N20 28i auto has a quite sudden and serve power band cut off around 6200rpm. Well before reline markings. The engine seems to rev freely and purposely all the way to 6200rpm. So I wouldn't say it has an issue, except it seems to cut out quite short of the indicated power range. Can anyone please set my mind at easy. The up shot is I change up around 5500 Max so it doesn't bounce into the power cut/hole around 6200. Thoughts? |

You shouldn't expect any stock engine to continue to increase power all the way to redline.
Peak power and torque will be less than max redline |

Update:
There are no error codes found. I used carly. I have been experimenting though and observations are: leave it in normal mode and sport shift, it will rev all the way just short of redline. so essentially as expected and with no sudden cutoff. same in sports mode with sport shift or manual BUT, in sports plus mode and manual, D or sport shift, it hard cuts off well before redline. 6000 or 6200. interestingly, i discovered that even in manual shift, the gearbox will auto shift up when it reaches limits (not in sports plus). I have always thought that BMWs in manual shift modes will hold the gear.... so bottom line is floor it in D, sport shift or manual. hold it hard to floor and its ok. shift way early when in sports plus. a bit disappointing in that although it is fast and furious -ish, it only works best when you floor it. so hard but steady acceleration doesn't reward and you don't feel like you're working the car like in most cars. But, I'm no longer concerned about a problem with engine, or injectors or ECU. It just is... Last edited by Go351; 02-14-2019 at 04:39 PM.. |
