1973 panda is the exact panda I’m looking for (birthyear)..I know you’d probably never part with something like that, but if anyone wanted to part with one, I’d be in the market.

That got me curious about the workings in the watch and found that you can purchase the 7T62 movement. So, I picked up a broke 7T62-0AM0 fairly cheap and going to buy a movement and R&R the watch.
So, got my 0GM0 (SNA765) back from Seiko... stopwatch and alarm worked... nothing else worked. Called them and sent it back again.

But on the 0AM0 (SNA061P1)... success! Bought the movement, tore the watch apart, put the face and hands over onto the new movement, put it back in the housing, programmed the zero point on the hands and had the seconds hand of the stopwatch fall off. Took it back apart and fixed the seconds hand. Re-assembled and programmed all the hands. Works like a charm!

I have a Seiko 5 that I really like. It's a great, inexpensive, durable little watch.

Found this site where if you are clever enough you can find the technical guide for your Seiko watch.

hint hint... notice the last 5 characters before ".pdf" ?

I had a nice Seiko for ages. Then the battery leaked and destroyed the works. Cost more to replace the works than it did to buy a new one. Such a shame because externally it is still pristine and it's a nice looking watch.

Alas, I am not a timepiece purist. My current wrist adornment is a Garmin Vivoactive 3.

Another reason I favor automatics.

There's no guarantees there either: lose lubrication, get a burr or gear fleck flying around in the movement, and that bizatch is toast no different than an engine.

Generally true, however I own a Quartz version of another watch. It is an Omega Seamaster Pro and I bought it just for travel so I wouldn't have to remove a really good watch all the time for security at the airlines. Turns out to be a nice watch.

I have several quartz watches but not my preference. Suunto core all black a luminox and seiko hybrid as tool watches and serve their purpose.

Neat! A Seiko thread

Rock an SSC019 as my "travel" watch (random pic off google):

It's "just" a solar/quartz, but I still like it a lot...a couple options out there for sapphire glass replacements but none for ceramic bezel inserts unfortunately.

Given that, my next watch will likely be SKX007...so much aftermarket support out there for those, etc. Almost a no brainer.

Seiko Alpinist SPB089 looks really nice. It’s a limited edition. However, it’s a little pricey. Hopefully prices go down.

Here's an action shot from my first HPDE of the year. I'm wearing my skx007 at Watkins Glen in April, pitting in. It is SN#1007, for you bond fans; rescued from the modder's bench (Thanks to Tunokies for that).

Lies!
I love all my Seiko quarts, kinetics, automatics and auto quartz (original kinetics). All of them have their place. I do have more kinetics than autos and quartz though.

I have not wore a watch since I was in high school. I have never had a need or a desire to. I never knew there were guys that got into this as much as you guys to. It's like a secret society!

The new Seiko Blue Alpinist was sold out in less than a day. Hodinkee seems to have them for almost double the MSRP of $600 from the Seiko website. Seiko, unfortunately calls it a limited edition piece. Now prices are insane. I like the watch, however, I won’t pay $1,000 plus for it. I also won’t support Hodinkee. Seiko, manufacture a watch for enthusiasts, not for watch scalpers.
