One of Tesla's main competitors right now in the US is Ford. These price drops really put Ford and others in a bad position. Ford had negative 40.6% margin per EV unit sold in 2022. They simply don't have ability to lower prices to match.
You have to sincerely hate Tesla to buy a MachE over a Model Y now. MachE lost half the $7500 credit. Model Y gets full credit and the recent Tesla price drop. For example, MachE GT is now effectively $13,755 more than Model Y Performance. GT model is just dead in the water. Also less range and worse performance. |

Others like the Tycan.... if ICE wasn't still a thing then MAYBE, but at that price I would rather get an ICE Porsche. None of the models come close to the range and acceleration of even the model 3 unless you get up to the over 100k range. Is handling and what not better, probably, but at double or more the cost for less range and acceleration. Again I would personally rather have the Tesla and an ICE Cayman or 911 or what not. Maybe the Ford or the Hyundais, but then you have to deal with dealers and shitty charge network (not a huge deal for me since I mostly use it local) with Ford you get the crappier 3/36 warranty. I also personally love the tech in the Tesla and all the app functions, not sure if these others have the same thing, but I know the Ford has keys and a start button and what not... no. I wish there was more out there that would compete with Tesla on price and performance because honestly I don't want to just have to buy a Tesla as my EV forever. I also wish Tesla updated their models more. Apart from the recent interior redesign of the S and X and minor facelifts the cars have basically gone unchanged since the start. |

They also haven't had to undercut their status or brand value to achieve their goals, nor have their stock tank while doing such "brilliant" moves. They have surely made their fair share of mistakes along the way. I'm just wondering why this brilliance isn't reflected in the stock price. Maybe it's just that investors are dumb.

In the past Year: BMW is +7.86 (27.53%)past year Tesla is -172.40 (-51.27%)past year That ties back to the point I was making, Tesla is trying to grow past the markets capacity/desire to ingest it's product, to the point it is willing to harm it's margins and alienate it's investors. It will take time to see just how brilliant that decision is, but we have some data markers that are hinting (strongly) at the need for a change in strategy. |

Any guesses on how long Tesla will keep the current line up going with little to no changes? The Tesla lineup is OLD and is rivaling what Toyota has done with the 4runner which originally debuted in 2010 and has received only minor updates for the LAST 14 YEARS! If Tesla was like other automakers and introduced truly new model updates every 3 to 5 years, they wouldn't exist. The recent Tesla model MSRP cost cutting is largely the result of a very stale model lineup and economies of scale of keeping things stale. It's also clear how much profit is built into the cars. Tesla isn't alone in this though. I'm looking at you domestic full size truck makers and the suckers that pay stupid money for simple and cheap to manufacture body on frame trucks.
Elon Musk is an amazing innovator and we need more people like him to say "Who says we can't do that?" and then wave a middle finger as he does it. I have thousands in Tesla stock to prove my support of the company. Are EVs the automotive future? Nope. Are they part of the future? Yep. So is full ICE and hybrid using gasoline, diesel, and alternative fuels.
