Come 2028 I confer the great EV dream will be all but over, the worlds' resources depleting at an alarming rate for the batteries bc there won't be a suitable replacement for the lithium packs. Plenty of oil on the planet to keep things sustainable as they are and a return to sanity.

Yes, but Chicago is the ultimate extreme example in the history of our country and probably the world. Yes, there are other extreme examples, but I would put Chicago at the top of that. Either way, my prediction is solely based on regardless of all the laws, these idiots pass, the reality of the situation won’t be able to back up their laws and they will have to reverse them. It won’t be the first time our government or any government stepped into something they know zero about only to have to revert back.

I hope you know I really hope you're right. But I'm highly skeptical based on current society and how things have been moving. NY had a chance to make a change with their governor. We know how that went. The recall of Gascon failing twice. All this stuff going on with crime which I doubt anyone can argue is a problem yet the same people are still in place and doubling down on their failing policies. This is what I'm going on as my gauge as to how the next election might go.

Believe me, I totally know what you mean. I’m sure you and I agree on a lot of things. However, the reason why this is going to be reversed is because of the following points. The electrical grid in the United States could never support charging over 250 million cars. It will take 50 years to upgrade the grid. It takes eight freaking hours to charge one of these stupid cars. Eight! The best place to charge them and where they are most practical to own is at your house. There are tens of millions of people that live in giant apartment complexes and condos all over the country. What are they going to do? They’re not going to go sit at a stupid super charging station and wait in line just so they can plug it up for two hours to get 20%. So until these issues get resolved, this is all fantasy lip talk coming from politicians. They could pass a law saying that all cars must fly by 2035 but that’s not going to happen. I’ve done the research on this from objective sources and this just isn’t practical regardless of peoples feelings. Now that doesn’t mean that electric vehicles won’t fit nicely into the countries fleet of cars now. I think some of them do quite well now actually. Tesla is a good story and has decent range. Of course, without subsidies they would’ve never made it but that’s a different conversation. All I’m saying is to actually outlaw ice vehicle production is an ignorant joke, and it will naturally die on its own.

You don't have to sell me on why EVs just won't work as a primary mode of transportation for the majority of the US now, near future, and even into the distant future. The things you've brought up about the grid and charge time....I've said the same in my posts here.

What I'm saying is we've had idiotic laws and policies that have been implemented with the failures being immediate and in everyone's faces. Yet nothing has been done to reverse course. And as I've said there's been a doubling down on these failed policies. I'm firmly convinced that the only way many of these policies will change is when everything around us degrades into total chaos.

Or, cars are affordable and the only thing available (due to federal laws) is electric, subscription model cars. Or people just choose not to go anywhere at all (15 minute cities). All of these achieve the end goal.

I would add that this scenario (less people driving - whether they be in EVs or ICE vehicles) is the only way any of the latest emission goals will come close to being met. Of course, no one will say that out loud but I’m sure all the people making these decisions know it.

Another thing to consider is taxes. The Feds and states have gotten used to the taxes applied per gallon of gasoline purchased. Don't think that these taxes are just going to just disappear. It's going to be applied somewhere and the most logical is going to be on electric consumption. With gas if things get expensive or times are tight, one could limit the amount of driving. Try that with electricity where it doesn't matter if you cut back on how much driving you do as your non EV consumption is still going to be taxed.

Have you driven in Texas lately? I've spent 3 weeks in the last 3 or so months and it's just out of control. Infrastructure falling apart, holes in the roads, collapses, etc. They are furiously trying to build more overpasses, toll lanes, etc., but all it does its slow it down more and in the meantime all the other road surfaces go to hell. I didn't think it was possible Texas would have worse infrastructure/roads than here in AK, but every time it just blows my mind. If you live there in a metro area, you basically take the hit of having to waste huge portions of your life dealing with it. It's out of control and despite all the work, it's not getting better (over the 10+ years I've been regularly going).
