OE iDrive reversing camera

A future video for my YouTube channel.
For those with iDrive but don't want an mmi box, but would like a reversing camera.....
I give you OE iDrive with reversing camera!!
I've never seen this on an E89 Z4 before, to the best of my knowledge it's only ever been done on the E9x 3 Series, etc

This is using the in-built software of the iDrive headunit, with a camera input to the rear Quadlock connector and then an emulator to mimic the on-board camera module. Plus a little bit of coding and hey-presto....

Don't know how long it'll be before I get this one out as I've already got a few videos the works now.

This is exactly what I want to do. Except with front and rear camera... please let us know the emulator. At you looking at the Crux box or one of those $50 boxes on Aliexpress?

This is just one of the boxes from Aliexpress. It will only do the rear view as the camera input is directly into the headunit, so you don't have a second input for the front camera. All the emulator does is send the correct signal to the headunit to allow it to turn to the correct vusual screen and display the camera image.
If you want both then you can buy specific units but it's about as cheap to just buy an mmi box, and then you get CarPlay etc

Thanka Dave. I love your videos. Very practical.

I'm thinking of a video switch for multiple inputs but i may get caught on the reversing power to the single video input if it comes from the CAN source or just 12 volt or reverse source. interested in seeing your set up video.

I thought about an MMI box and bought one with the aux input but really just want camera inputs.

Thanks for all you do to support our cars

Be good setup for rear view mirror, as the fixed mirror is almost useless roof down.

I have a rear view mirror video set up in my Aston Martin for front and rear cameras... it works great. However, I have the auto high beam function embeded in my mirror and want something that looks stock, not a clip on mirror...
