The minute an car goes Hybrid, no one cares about the extra power, weight is the main priority. It's not like BMW is gonna remove the Drift mode. Chillax!

just looked at nationwide listings - there are 5 times more G8x M3/M4 for sale than there are M340i

but I don't want a heavy M3 ... i actually want a 6 speed manual GR86!

sorry not sure why my callsign is G99M5 ... will sort it !

But you have an F8x picture and I always thought you wanted like F82.

EDIT: The base models aren't that heavy. Just remember that M4 Competition Convertible is two tonnes.

Isnt the new C63 a hybrid with 4cyl?
Correct, they should have stuck with V8 or gone full electric

Point was if you are getting the weight penalty, go full electric.

These government regulations won't stick, just like the fleet average mandates didn't. They will lower them when they realize it's not achievable and will destroy the new/used car markets (people can't afford them and it will drive up used car prices again).

Wait what? You trying to say M3 is heavier than M340? They are almost identical weight.

And where do you get these numbers?
Quick Autotrader search for 2022-2023 new and used show double the M340i as M3/M4 and that's not even looking at price since used M3/M4 are selling at or above their msrp (which is why so many are listed, people still trying to profit on it)

Unfortunately, yes.

If C63 dropped a V8 for a 4cylinder plus hybrid setup and weighs 4,650. Keeping the heavier V8 and adding a hybrid drivetrain will certainly add up to a lot of weight.

M3 here are selling at 20% discount (very lightly used) so are the handful of m340i

I mean I wanted more power more everything but actually I want a lighter car to throw around the track and the gr86 looks very well balanced. Will be eaten alive on the straights but that's not the point.

I know the car will be heavy, but adding in the instant torque from battery should give it quite an acceleration punch. Never really have to wait on the turbos to spool up for the acceleration kick. I'll be excited to test drive a touring when it comes out.

Wish they'd just go ahead and release it. Not just the M, but the entire new 5 series. Sick of looking at the new 2 and 7.

Well that's just a given, these days. Looks like the new E450 is 400 lbs heavier than my 540. Not sure about exterior dimensions

Sorry - I was looking at the current E class. Never mind.

the m5 hybrid really needs 750hp with the added weight to stay competitive with the gt63s e performance (831hp, 5200lbs). At 700hp it needs to weigh less than 4750lbs to stay on par with the f90 power to weight ratio. Unless they add rear wheel steering, it won’t be a jump performance wise over the f90.

Maybe they’re reserving a 750hp version for the red label or whatever it’s called as the e performance competitor.

Not a fan of these hybrid systems but it’s futile to not expect otherwise at this point.

Do these engines have the same issues as the F10 M5 models? I believe if my memory serves me correctly they were related to the rod bearings on cars with 60k+ miles, often times tuned.

What engines are you referring to? If it is tuned, and fails, how is it a problem with the engine? :

The gen in the F10 M5…

I'm not sure if there haven't been mechanical changes since then.

I also mentioned, "often times tuned", because I've heard of them happening to stock cars and modded, one of which had a Dinan tune.

This might've been the wrong forum to comment on & ask. My apologies.

It's all about marketing and pricing, they need new things to go alongside pairing with their Motorsport stories (which isn't really much to tell for years) just like what AMG been doing, the pointless hybridization is a MUST and politically correct thing to do.
