Get rid of Electronic Parking Brake

Is it possible to get rid of the electronic parking brake?

When we put the car in park what is actually happening compared to hitting the parking brake separatly?

Is "Park" just a transmission park and then the brake actuates the caliper?

Is getting rid of the electronic brake a bad idea?

Will it throw codes? Can it just be tied up out of the way ?

No

If you put the auto box in park a mechanical pawl physically locks a gear in the transmission preventing movement between gearbox and rear wheels

Completely separately the electronic handbrake drives the rear brake pads to clamp the rear discs..not using hydraulic pressure..

You can’t get rid of the EPB..it’s illegal as all cars in almost all markets need two independent braking systems..also unlike a normal handbrake the EPB has an emergency mode when underway acting on all four wheels not just the rear pair.

So you can’t tie it out of the way..well you can but it’s illegal..

Yes you will get many codes…

Enjoy

EPB activates the ABS to operate brakes in an emergency. Try it at low speed.
My ABS module went bad and the car lost the emergency brake function and hill start assist..
The rear electric brakes is a totally different circuit.
ABS did not effect this function.

Well that's curious.

Considering I never use it, then, since you're saying PARK is a mechanical stop in the transmission.... the read EPB is..... useless to me

I pinky swear I won't find a way to get rid of it!

I kind of forget how the caliper looks with it on there now so i'll have to check it out.

Thanks
