Cup holder?

So I've been loving my 2011 Z4, but it didn't come with a clip in cupholder, and the dealer says that they don't come with them anymore. I can't find it listed as an option accessory, so I assume it's standard, but can't confirm.

Does anyone know if I'm owed a cup holder? The two in the armrest are worthless (I honestly wish they would've left them out).

Really? It's not in the glovebox? Is the hole/bracket still there to mount it?

As Wraith stated the cupholder that plugs into the slot on the passenger side of the center console store in the right corner of the glovebox.

This is from the BMW list of standard features - "2 cupholders in the center console beneath the center armrest, plus a clip-in cupholder on the center console"

Assuming you do have the slot in the center console, and no cupholder in the glovebox. Then march down to the dealer and politelty ask him to cough it up.

I call BS. Never trust a dealer. Call BMWNA and have them confirm that 2011 models no longer come with the clip in cupholder. I find that hard to believe.

I just test drove a 2011 Z4 and it definitely had the clip-in cupholder in it's own dedicated holder in the right portion of the glove box. This is a standard feature on all 2009+ Z4s.

I have one, but it was my understanding it came with Thru loading system aka the ski package. If you had ski's you could not use the standard cup holders. It was in the glove box when I picked it up in May 11th in Germany.

I have a 2011 ( bought last July, however ) and it had the cupholder stored in the glove compartment. You have to search for it- the way it is stored, I didn't even see it the frst time I looked.

I guess my sales guy was a newbie -- he determined that they didn't come with them because none of the other Zs had them clipped in. To be honest I would never have looked in the glovebox, thanks for the tip!

Yes, I'm fairly certain he just missed it in the GB and the dealer doesn't know squat.

This is the difference between a good dealer and a crappy one. A good dealer would be honest if they don't know and find out for you what the deal is rather than feeding you some bull line to get you off their back.

OP: When you said "dealer" in your original post were you referring to your CA? When you were told that Z4s didn't come with the clip in cupholder was this by your CA? Did he or she ask anyone else at the dealership? This is really pathetic. I have found in my almost 50 years of buying cars that in almost all cases I knew as much, if not more, than every salesperson I have dealt with in my auto purchases. The exceptions have been the last 2 European Deliveries. In both cases, my CAs were well informed. I would write a very carefully worded letter to the General Manager of the dealership. They really do need to do a better job of training their staff.

The two cup holders in the armrest are totally useless as someone mentioned.

I replaced the tray in the armrest with the Euro version, no useless cupholders now & much more useable space.

Will attach pics soon.

The part numbers are:

tray: 51169181218 (oddments tray)
mat: 51169174845 (the part description by BMW is poorly described as a "floormat")
screws (2-pack) 07147122390
Th screws you don't need if swapping the existing tray.

My US dealer told me he couldn't order these parts - so my brother bought them in the UK & shipped to me. Expect some will be resourceful enogh to order them in the US somehow.

I'm not sure how a clip in phone cradle will work with this tray. I don't use one.

Will be in UK for most of July- just emailed and confirmed that a local UK dealer will have these ready for me to collect for £29.64 GBP. The price quoted includes UK Value Added Tax (VAT) of 20%, so around $47 USD.

Oh relax. People who research cars before they buy them ALWAYS know more than the salesperson. It's because salespeople have to know a little about EVERY car, not EVERYTHING about one car. There is an impossible amount of information out there - ESPECIALLY with BMW's. BMW changes so many things mid-production, and even mid-year. It's literally impossible to answer every question that every customer has - no matter how well trained you are.

I'm not saying his CA shouldn't check with someone else who knows, maybe it's just a bad salesperson. You can't automatically assume everyone will BS their way through a simple question. But how do you know that he's not a new guy that just came from selling at a used car lot, and has yet to learn the difference in clientele.

Anyway here's the point - one can't memorize all of the information. You just need someone who's willing to find the answers to the questions they can't answer right away. That's a good salesperson - not just someone who has the most information memorized.

sorry guys... reason I haven't posted pics yet is that my car's in the body shop. Parking lot accident where someone rolled into my front bumper. Replacement bumper cover was on back order from Germany - so what should have been a 3-4 day job has turned into a 3-4 week job. Seem's the bumper is now en route somewhere between NY & San Diego. I've been told I should have her back week of the 11th.
