3.0 vs 3.5 differences
I am driving a 335i vert and about to trade for a Z4. If I go with the 3.0 non turbo model, will I be disappointed. I have found that I never really use the power of the 3.5 in my 3 series. Other than the obvious engine and tranny differences, what else is different among the two models? Any interior differences? Thanks.

I have a 08 M3 and just got the 3.5 Z4. The Z4 3.5 feels just as powerful as the M3 and much more fun to drive. If you're ready to invest the extra $, get the 3.5. You won't regret it.

we ordered the 35 for the DCT - if that were available in the 30 we would have seriously looked at that engine due to lighter weight and normal aspiration (awesome sound); that being said, I generally subscribe to the theory that more power is better and we love the twin turbo power

Same here...plus, there were a couple of extras as standard (in my country) on the 35 that made the price diff between the two look softer...but it was mainly the DCT.

not much diff... but overall is lighter, smaller brakes, different gear ratios, the black grills vs chrome grills, the exhaust is two outlets on one side vs two larger ones on each side of the car(different sound too), single zone a/c, better gas mileage and you can't get the Double Clutch tranny.

In addition to all the differences everyone has posted already....consider this...
If you want to go from 0-60 in a blistering 4.3 seconds, then consider the 35i If 6 seconds or so (which is respectable) is OK with you, then consider the 30i. |

What he means is that you can get DCT only with the 3.5 (instead of you can get the 3.5 only with DCT). I live in Europe and have ordered the 3.5 with a manual gearbox.

A 12.9 sec 1/4 mile at 107.9 mph is very consistent with a 4.3 sec 0-60 time. Before the Z4 I had a 2007 Corvette with the Z51 and the 0-60 was 4.1 seconds with the Corvette. My Z4 feels almost as fast as the Corvette did to 60. Maybe just a hair slower, that's all. Plus, if a 2010 Boxster S with only 270 torque and 320 HP (or whatever the exact figure is) can hit 60 in 4.3 with it's PDK transmission, then there is absolutely no reason why the Z4 with DCT can't. With all the technology, simple power to weight ratios are no longer the best way to determine how fast a car "might be". The MT test figures prove that. |

I raced against Z4 3.5 using my M3. The Z4 can keep up with the M3 until around 90mph.
The M3 has a 414hp V8 but only 295lb-ft... car weight 3726lbs Z4 3.5 has a 300hp I6 with 300lb-ft.... car weight 3450lbs |
