Catless downpipes
I need help again from the more knowledgeable members.
I'm wanting to buy some AR design downpipes but am worried that the catless option will have high emissions. The car must pass UK emissions test (MOT) when it's due and I'm not sure if this is possible with catless DP's. Does anybody know if it will fail the MOT with the second cats in place? or if there will be a big diffrence in emissions? Please help! Last edited by The_Hulk; 06-09-2012 at 10:07 AM.. |

So should be ok on my Z Don't want to go with race cats as you get less power and less sound. Last edited by The_Hulk; 06-11-2012 at 05:20 AM.. |

Catted DP's won't trip any codes, the DP's work better with a tune or i wouldn't bother.

Any live material available on a regular 35is, 35is catless DP and 35is dp with racecats?
I'm making up my mind on DPs but only for the sound of it. For tuning, a good chip on 35is already delivers an upgrade of +60hp to 400hp. |

Does anyone know how much of an installation process this is? Is there a lot of welding that needs to be done? Also if someone can throw a number that a normal place should charge me to get these installed would be cool...Thanks guys

I can give you some links on the German Z4 forum. Schmickler custom tunes cars (so with multiple dynoruns to optimize results). 400hp is not rare for 35is models which have no other adjustments from stock. Schmickler does fit additional cooling by the way.
For me I hope they squeeze out just a bit more. I have Milltek straight pipes instead of the secondary cats. |

Vintage, did you install your DP's before your exhaust? I'm wondering what your impression was with the AR DP's and stock exhaust.

no - the Eisenmann was installed a couple of years ago; if I had to do it all over again, I would save the exhaust $$$$ and just order the AR catless, ceramic coated DPs. you see, I had to order the more expensive catted DPs because the Eisenmann eliminates the secondary cats and I did not want to run without any cats at all

I am toying with the idea of getting the AR designs catted DPs with a Milltek exhaust (which also removes the secondary cats and the resonators) but am concerned it would be too loud and raspy. I am running the Akrapovic DP on my Mini (100 cpsi cat) with an exhaust that removes the secondary cat and it is a little too boomy and raspy for my taste. (And that's with a resonator.) |
