Took delivery of Crimson Red Z4 Sdrive35i
Greetings to all. I just took delivery of my new 35i. Crimson red with beige leather interior. It looks awesome. I will post some pics in the next few days. I went with the 6 speed manual as nice as the dct was, why bother driving a sports car unless it is a manual. Also got the nav system and it is sweet. I test drove both the 30i and the 35i. The 30i was quick, but, the 35i is genuinely fast. I think you know what I mean.
Had a boxster before this and have to say that the new Z4 blows the boxster out of the park in regards to the right mix between comfort and sportiness. Not a slam on Porsche, it is a great drivers car, just wanted more luxury and got it in the new Z4. A couple of questions for the group: 1. My dealer said that the tires were filled with nitrogen instead of air. Is that standard procedure on this vehicle and how do you add nitrogen to the tires should they need to be filled? 2. Has anyone added an amplifier to the sound system? Is it a hard job? I noticed that BMW added some warning stickers saying that any additions to the electrical system, blah, blah, blah, could interfere with the vehicle electronics and void the warranty. Is this for real or are they just trying to scare us? I did notice that they lock down the battery and you cannot easily get to it. 3. I plan to add a sirius stilleto but right now I have no good place to put it other than in the middle console. Not ideal, but, it is close to the aux in and the electrical outlet. 4. I declined all the dealer add ons. They tried to scare me with stories on the cost of run flat tires and bent rims. I will take my chances. 5. Got my 35i for well under msrp if anyone cares. I hope BMW doesn't come out tomorrow with better incentives beyone 1.9%, that would bite. Later. |

1. The purpose of nitrogen filled tires is to be more consistent and not need additions so often. You'll need to find a good tire shop that offers it, just in case. 2. Can't help. I'm happy with the premium sound. 3. Can't help. 4. I got the tire/rim insurance. It paid off a previous time. Although, Florida shouldn't have too many pot holes, the enemy of low profile tires. 5. I missed out on the current deals but I've gotten 2 months and 2400 miles enjoyment out of it by not waiting.

http://e89.zpost.com/forums/showthread.php?t=280841 Look towards the bottom of the link for a post by STLMCO who added a JL amp fairly easily. He was really happy with it except for the BT phone volume, but I assume he got that resolved by now. |

Yes, I did get the BT issue resolved. Easy install if you are comfortable removing the interior trim work on your brand new car. Bewtween the JL Audio HD amp and the Hertz Hi-Energy speakers, love the sound quality.

yeah, there's the catch - removing the trim. How did you get the BT audio issue resolved? Was it an adjustment on the amp? I'm also curious if you installed a subwoofer? |

Thanks for the responses. I will post some picks of my car over the weekend. In the meantime, do you guys think just adding an amp would give a noticeable improvement in audio quality or would I need to also replace the speakers? Second, are there any line outputs on the radio or did you have to tap into the speaker wire to install the amp? Third, what is up with BMW's warning stickers saying that any additions or alterations to the factory wiring could void the warranty? Are they for real? How could adding an amp possibly cause any damage to the vehicle?

Nice to see more Crimson Red Z's, although my interior is all black. Where does your radar detector hook up into, is that hard-wired?
Also, I keep my XM portable (the Inno) in the middle console with the car kit, fits nicely and get's the job done. I'd like to find a better spot to put the antenna on but my solution for right now is fine. I love having the Aux input. |

Thanks. Crimson Red is awesome and I love the beige leather interior. I think it sets off the car just right. I did hardwire the radar detector. I bought the beltronics hardwire kit and tapped into the power outlet underneath the glove box. The hard wire kit has an inline fuse. I will likely keep my sirius stilletto in the arm rest because there really is no good place to mount it. Only problems there are that you cannot see the station and it gets hot.

I did a search for the Stiletto and it looks like it plugs in like a usb mp player. So can you control it from your radio like an iPod? |

Radar detectors are legal in Florida, so, no worries there.
I have the nav system and I plug the stilletto into the aux in. The system does not recognize the specific device other than an auxillary input. I cannot control the stilleto through the nav system and the aux in. |
