"M steering wheel" - 35i M pkg vs 35is vs M3

It looks to me from pics online that the "M steering wheel" in the M package for the 35i and the one that's part of the basic 35is configuration are identical ... and that both are the same as in the M3.

Can anyone confirm these guesses? Thanks.

35i and 35is do share same wheel if you get M pkg with 35i.
In fact, 35i M pkg is better deal than 35is since they both have same engine.

But, M3 wheel is completely different.
Thickness is not even same I believe.
Also, all the parts along with wheel itself is different.

35i with the m package does not have the 35is tune among other things. An I with an Mpkg does not an IS make.

Ah, but the 35i with Dinan Stage II is a capable critter. And $3K cheaper, net-net. Trade-offs to be sure, but a great car to start with and a beastly tuned mill may be the better deal.

A bit OT but...One of the reasons why I bought the 35is was because of the sports exhaust which sounds excellent mated to the DCT. An aftermarket exhaust would have cost me around $2500+ customs duties of 15% + installation...then there is the steering reprogram etc..

And to be honest I think BMW got the sound just right on the 'is'.

So in my country, this factored in with the extra cost of the DCT trans + M package + limited production of 25/year meant a good deal for the 'is'.

Just go to realoem.com under steering wheel section.
M pkg steering wheel is exactly same as 35is one.

Again, gotta wonder how the sound stacks up against a 35i with the exhaust butterfly actuator line removed removed and the vacuum line capped.

You're so right Alex.
It's been only a week since I got my 35is with M pkg and yesterday was such a lovely day so I drove top down most of the time.

Oh boy! That SOUND made my day, so deep, so full...... I was in heaven.

And downshifting when sporty? How about that? The gear change and the revving up make the sound even more glorious.

I'm soooooo in love with it.
Thanks BMW for the new exhaust.

Hehe yeah I just went out for a drive tonight. The air was completely still so perfect for listening to the exhaust. Have a friend drive behind you whilst you accelerate and see what they think...one friend was amazed at how F1-like the car sounded in normal mode with manual shifting! That made my day haha! The sound is indeed very characterful.

The 35is exhaust is a totally different part number to the normal 35i exhaust.

The actuator mod on both types of exhaust does make a difference to the sound.

In Australia they only bring in 25 per year of the 35is. It costs around AU$140-150k on the road here.

FWIW, the steering wheel listed there, plus the silver parts house the buttons, etc., are not what my 35is has.

That site is mistaken. The steering wheels are different - I've driven the two cars back-to-back. And it's not just cosmetics (35i with silver bits, is with black), the is's wheel is thicker.

Not sure what you guys are looking at, but in the US, the 35is gets the black M-sport steering wheel as standard equipment. This is the exact same steering wheel that you can get in the 30i or 35i when opting for the M package. I sat in a 35is at the dealer, and can confirm it's the same wheel as in my 30i with the M package.

The M-sport steering wheel is an independent entity, not exclusive to any specific trim level. It happens to be optional on lower models and standard on the 35is, but is not an "is" steering wheel per se.
