Speaker upgrade s677 dsp pro system

I am looking at upgrading my speakers ( just the mids and tweeters for now). From what I see I have the s677 hifi professional dsp system, are they just 4 ohm speakers which means I can go with any speakers that fit or am I missing something? I don't want to remove door panels to look as I hear the clips break so I would rather have new speakers on hand and remove it only once.

I just installed the Bavsound stage 1 speaker upgrade in my 2013 Z4 with s677 system. Install was pretty easy but in all honesty, I'm not sure the sound improvement was worth the money and time. What this system really needs is a quality amp and better powered subs. Unfortunately you can't upgrade the Logic7 DSP system. I'd recommend saving your money.

When you say you can't upgrade the 677 amp I'm not sure you are correct, if I understand what you are saying..

For sure Audiotec Fischer do their MAtch 10 DSP a/mp and a MOST adapter box with a custom harness to replace 677 amps..

I'm currently in the middle of a 677 upgrade program with said amp plus a mixture of Eton, Audison and AF speakers..

I would agree with you on the subs. It's is so disappointing... Ive been looking for a solution. In one of my other cars it has a great sounds system with some under seat mounted subs where you can really hear and feel the lows... much needed, especially in a noisy car like a roadster

Sadly on the E89 there’s no space to fit underneath subs…best option is to replace the rear subs with better quality versions from Eton/Audison/Audiotec Fischer etc and much more power from maybe an external amp…although the limited DSP controls will limit tuning options…

I replaced all the mid range speakers with Eton Co-axial tweeter versions as a temporary measure pending a full DSP/amp install…I was very pleased with the incremental improvements….this was on a 677..but a 676 had similar impact.

Audio is such a personal thing so I thought effort spent / money spent performance gained equation was positive…

With a few trim tools it’s pretty straightforward to pop the door skins off..remember to take all the screws out first which as in different locations on both doors..

For the doors best to get a set with the separate tweeters as they impact the spatial image and ‘tone’ or ‘colour’ of the sound quite a lot..

FWIW updating the woofers in the footwells has a big impact but that’s a bit harder work..

I'm way late seeing your response above. I was not aware that there was a PnP amp for the 677 system. I appreciate the info. Do you think this amp would make a worthwhile improvement using the Bavsound stage 1 speaker upgrade? I really would hate to have to pay for better speakers after buying and installing the Bavsounds.

I can’t yet give an view as due to a delayed operation I’m not able yet to complete the installation..

For sure better speakers in isolation will yield better results..I can say that for sure..

Having spent about 2000 usd on amp and parts I certainly hope it’s going to be better..

I used the Match 7 on my 20i with 676 system and it certainly made a massive difference ..it was way better than both the stock 676 and 677 systems…

Thanks - all that makes sense. Over the last 25 years, I've built some really high-end car stereo systems but I'm not sure it's worth the effort for me in a roadster like the Z4. Most of my time in the car is with the top down so it is hard to appreciate the quality sound with all of the ambient noise.

In theory the top down equals no need for quality personally I don’t buy..

The major plus of these DSP high end systems is the quality and realism of the sound stage with precision placement of the vocals and instruments ..plus the power and range to overcome external factors…

I’m not suggesting going through town with things turned up to 10 but on an open road having great sound with the top down, IMHO, is a wonderful thing
