Here were some of my other non-RBR/Merc thoughts from the weekend.
- Otmar is such a crybaby "The regulations target the low rake designs" maybe if they didnt copy a design, they would know how to change it to make it work under new regs.
- Vettel is making me sad. I want him to do well, but it really seems like he's lost it. There were moments of brilliance with the Alonso and Sainz sequence, but the incident with Ocon was just a huge error.
- Alpine is so bad compared to last year on race pace
- Mazespin crashing out on lap one brought so much joy.
- Mick spinning on lap 2 brought much sadness. I think he is a legit decent kid who is very humble and has a lot of weight on his shoulders. I hope he is successful.
- Lando Fing Norris. BOOOOIIII
- Decent first race from Daniel, I am sure we will see him up with Lando in a race or two
- Leclerc proves over and over what a driver he really is. In both quali and races, he does better than the car allows. I honestly think he is a top 3 driver right now.
- Poor Gasly. Not even sure what happened there, contact with Daniel and Carlos? Then he retired without a word near the end.
- Good first race from Yuki

Really fun race start to finish though. Looking forward to 22 more just like it.

It seemed while team Mercedes did it enough to get noticed, Christian squawked over the air to max to do it, max even asked how it’s legal and once he began doing it they suddenly cared. Now, it’s easy to assume favoritism and even my mind leads me down that path, but, it’s likely they didn’t want the daisy chain of all teams doing it. Or maybe they already were and we only got partial story...?

Hamilton drove an awesome race that Verstappen couldn't match despite the advantages he had.
Next race maybe it switches round and Verstappen wins.

Somewhat ironic that it was Red Bull who made a fuss on the radio complaining about Hamilton and track limits to get Race Controls attention....leading to Hamilton being told to stop exceeding track limits, which he did....while Verstappen appeared to carry on.
The error was Race Control not telling drivers during the pre race meeting that track limits at turn 4 would be policed.
Yet maybe if Horner hadn't snitched on Hamilton there might have been no directive to Verstappen to give the place back later on.

Yeah it’s ironic at best... somewhat reeks and for what it’s worth I am no fan or Horner. His leadership style is insufferable. Do the fia monitor all airwaves thus him telling max was a two fold effort?

I think a lot of people are missing the point. Regardless of whether they started policing the track limits at that turn or not, they were always going to make him give that place back or penalize him, because he made the pass off track. Off track is off track when it comes to making a pass. General policing of track limits and enforcing the rule of making a pass on track aren't tied together.

Yes they do.
Its also why drivers blame others over team radio for whatever incident...its usually just them getting in their excuses to the stewards first...or trying to get the other driver into trouble.

Right, this is the main sticking point. Track limits while lapping are one thing. Passing another driver off the track is always a no-no.
