Correct. Roof works fine when rolling, but the mirror feature doesn't. Not a big dissapointment, I was mostly interested in the roof.

Prochip, untrusted company
I bought the FreeTV module fron Prochip in June 2010 through ebay.de
for 264 euro, He charged me the shipping cost (DHL) for 5Kg package (the module weigths less than 200 grams) because he said that this is the cheapest price with insurance. Unfortunately the package was lost somewhere during mailing process. Andrea filed for the claim (since end of June) I tried to contact him by email more than 5 times but he never replys. I guess that that claim from DHL should be finished by now (almost 3 months) but still no reply from him. He said Prochip is a trusted company for 15 years, but from my point the company cannot be trusted. He wants to spoil his 15 years reputation for only 264 euro. If someone knows him "ANDREAS" please tell him that what he is doing is not very gentlemen, not sincere and unreliable. If you want to deal with Prochip , think twice , you may end up in the same suituation like me BECAREFUL "PROCHIP" rated 5 stars in UNTRUSTED COMPANY

Ok - I have been on the fence with this ProChip thing for quite awhile. Listening to some of the issues of late........ The one thing that is really keeping me from considering this add on is the following.
If this device is designed around the "current BMW software for the car" what happens when BMW does an update ?? How do I know the functions will still work ? If they do not will ProChip redo the software in their device and send it to us for free ???? I have already had 2 software updates on my 2010 3.0i (I had 15 updates over 2 years on my 2007 335i cab). There is absolutely no doubt in my mind that BMW will update the software for something and there is no way I can be assured that it will not efffect the ProChip functionality......

For the record; I've purchased multiple items from Prochip over the last 6 or 7 months and have never had an issue. My original order was slow to arrive, however this was more a function of Canada Post and not Prochip (DHL Post transferred the shipment to Canada Post).
For Canadian forum readers, we know how Canada Post can be sometimes. In any case, my Prochip items were delivered as advertised and are working as advertised (i.e. roof, mirrors etc). I had a minor issue initially and Andreas was VERY helpful in getting my issue resolved as quickly as possible (turns out it was something I had done). From what I know of Andreas / Prochip, I find it hard to believe he's trying to screw anyone over and risk the wrath of us forum folks, not to mention any future purchases. My 2 cents Regards Dave

He also confirms that all updates of the tools are free if they will not work after a BMW update. Reprogramming will be done if necessary and will be available when ready. All the tools I bought works flawless, also after updates by BMW. And none of the programs were detected by BMW. Just to get the right perspective, the majority have absolutely no problems with the tools! Shadow4 |

When I read this, I think the package is stuck at DHL or customs without reason. It happened to me too once that customs kept the package on hold and afterwards lost it.
DHL paid back the value afterwards after a complaint.

I can't help but comment on this attack.
I am just thinking that whoever can afford a Z4 especially in Thailand where the taxes are skyhigh wouldn't be bothered to spend a few hundreds on such a tool. As an observer I am convinced that our forum member didn't receive his modul and prochip really sent it but something happened during delivery. Several other members can't get the mirror folding working. All users have to hold the button to operate the roof, it's not one touch which I find would be more convenient. My point is that prochip developed a product that is not convenient as smarttop and has no clue about marketing either. On a public forum you shouldn't attack personally anyone, especially the ones that gave you their lovely money, and in case someone accuses you like that, just play highball and save face. JUST SAY AT ONCE "I DON'T KNOW WHAT HAPPENED BUT I WILL SEND YOU ANOTHER FOR FREE" it should only cost you 20 euros max (and don't ask me how this comes) and your following orders would multiply. For the record I haven't got any module yet, I will wait for a few months more to see any feedback on misfunctions from you guys. Just my .02 Last edited by jannisa; 09-26-2010 at 10:40 AM.. |

FYI, I don't believe there was ever any promise of a "one-touch" roof operation. The change to the software that Prochip provides is simply to allow the driver to put the roof up or down, at greater speeds than what BMW ships the car at (8km/hr). Prochip's change was for speeds up to 40km/hr.
So, as far as the roof up/down process, Prochip delivered what was promised. With respect to the mirrors folding in/out with the touch of the lock button on the key fob, according to Shawdow, it appears as though this function only works with a specific software version already installed in the car. The functions I purchased from Prochip work as designed and I'm very happy with my purchases. As for the other solutions available, which may or may not be better than Prochip's solution, I selected the Prochip solution because I did NOT want to have to cut any wires in order to install a module. Regards Dave

The irony is that company produced a product to fill a gap, but that requires that one hold a button while it works - and the problem is?

And you're 100% on the money with your second remark, the product works as advertised (well, for the roof anyway, the mirror thing will eventually get sorted out I'm sure) and requires the same procedure as the OEM function.
