Interesting to read people's first BMW's. Had a few too many to recall them all now, my first was a (don't know the model number just learning these things) UK x reg 5 series. Since then had 4 more 5's 3 3's which were all coupe's all being company cars. As I say too many to list now. Worst was my X5 hybrid, just did not get along with it. The best? That's easy my current one, a G80 fab car my retirement present to myself.

Congrats on retirement David. That's great! I'm about 9 years behind you. My incoming m440cv is my pre retirement gift to myself as the wife and i are going to do some heavy traveling once i pull the ripcord.

Should I buy a 5 SERIES E ?
I currently own and drive a LAND ROVER FREELANDER - HSE AUTO 2.2 -it is all singing and dancing - it comes with a sports gearbox and has been a fantastic car - the leather in it is superb! The car comes with heated front seats, a leather heated steering wheel and SAT NAV - and a 20gb HARD DRIVE so I can save all my favourite albums. I am thinking of part - exchanging for a OUTLANDER PHEV but having test driven it I was disappointed with the quality.
It has a 30 mile electric range and a 2.0 litre engine - petrol. So I have moved onto the BMW 5 Series - E range - which also does 30 miles on the battery. What I need to know is does the SE come with: 1. Heated seats 2. Heated steering wheel 3. HARD DRIVE for saving music and USB PORT? 4. Leather Seats I know the trims are SE / M / M SPORT - my issue is the SE is cheaper than the M and M SPORT models but is the SE basic? My journey to work is a 16 mile round trip - so will the BMW cover 16 miles in electric - while I have on my music - heating etc? Is it nice to drive because having driven LAND ROVERS for 15 years - 3 in total - should I get a BMW 5 series - or just stick with my FREELANDER? I am thinking of buying a 2018 model - I always buy 2nd hand cars - with low mileage though - under 25,000 MILES and there are plenty available. Another question I would want to ask is - the 2018 SE was 40,000 brand new and in 2022 it is down to 25,000 - why is that? Many Thanks for any reply - but I am not a BMW owner and would like to what these cars are like - is really worth buying the BMW - M 5 SERIES or will the SE serve my needs! |

I purchased my first BMW in September 1985. It was a 635CSi 5mt Delphin Grey/Pearl Beige. I have owned it for 36+ years and it's still going strong. Here are a couple of recent photos --

325e 1985. Cosmos Blue. Manual. Loved it. Then went away from BMW; babies. Boats and job, etc. 540i 2018, and now waiting on X7, I am back.

My very first car was the first car I ever drove, and it was a 1979 E21 320i. No, I'm not THAT old, it was an old car even when I had it! It had all kinds of problems and it finally died after being abused by my 16 year old self. Needless to say I went with cheaper Japanese cars and, VW and Audi before finally coming back to BMW 18 or 19 years later:

2014 X1 I bought for my wife. We were looking for a safe, affordable, well built small SUV. Went from that to a 2018 X2. Now we have 2021 X3. Great car. Just bought a 430i for me. I guess we are hooked now

My first, 1982 528i, great little car that really drove well on the autobahn. Purchased used in ‘84 in Wurzburg. Had Recaro seats and drove it as far as Berlin, never a hiccup….that was my last one, until my new one arrives this year sometime.

Always wanted one and just got my first one the day before Christmas. 2018 540i. Just did about a 500 mile round trip this weekend with a lot of scenic route and it was phenomenal. I'm hooked.
