Thank you gents. I'll have to come up with something. A gift just seems weird to me. Taking her and the kids out to eat might be something to consider. Although we have been together for 5 years, the kids and I aren't where it would be considered normal for me to take them anywhere without their mother. I sporadically see the kids since they aren't there all the time. Evenings, I'm usually at the gym between 6- 8, so by the time I get to her, they are usually in bed.

I'm more in line with this frame of thinking.......unless I were married with kids.

I help my kids if they need to get something for their mom

I participate in any festivities, and will TRY to keep my wife out of the kitchen/sink

There is that whole MILF thing to consider . . .

There seems to be this thing with gifts that the nuance is make it a “surprise” and be thoughtful. Those are the best gifts, although on typical non Hallmark holidays it’s still expected that you give them so let’s not get started on if it’s truly a surprise and if it’s optional…

As for mother’s/Father’s Day the war department and I take a different approach. I ask her what she wants, and she I. This is outside the bounds of normal, but again I detest the notion of expected surprise previously aforementioned. Every year my only request is to allow me to have a day where I don’t have to cook, clean, take care of kids etc. a “free day” if you will. She has recently followed suit. Guess what I’m suggesting is you give it a try and ask what would make her most happy as a mother? Doing something for her children? Something as a family unit? Giving her reprieve and taking on her motherly duties?

Just a thought, toss it out if it sucks for you.

To consider? There is no consideration. Did you happen to see the pic of the gf I posted (then deleted, for those just now joining - no point in wasting your time looking) in the Cool Chick thread??? Consider nothing. 80% of women in their 20's don't have the body that she does.

The war department?

If we were married and/or lived in the same house; I'd be all over this. As for the reprieve...not a chance in hell. The asshole in me is going to come out for a sec. A.) Those are her kids, not ours. B.) Those are her animals (dogs, cats, goats, cows, horses, etc.) not mine and F*CK that! She bought them, she can take care of them. C.) My house stays immaculate, hers.....did you see the part about the animals and the kids?

I appreciate the suggestion though and if we lived together or were married, this would be ideal. I already go out of my to take care of her stuff before I take care of mine. The problem with this, is that her stuff always gets done, then she adds more; all while my stuff never gets done. I may just take her and the kids to McDonalds and Putt-putt or something.

No - I don't because traditionally we don't in NZ - it's a day to celebrate *your* mother, not all mothers (hence Mother's Day, not Mothers' Day).

I'm pretty sure if I did nothing, my wife would not appreciate the subtleties of the finer points of grammar that you've just pointed out...

I think this year though will just be some flowers and a card, a hike and breakfast made by our 6 year old who has been practicing making pancakes from start to finish and really wants to do it all himself. Our three year old is solely interested in the pancake making for the chocolate chips that he gets to eat.

Next year though, going to source some materials in advance and make her a rose gold (fake of course) wire birds nest pendant with two pearls in it and maybe a heart in between to go onto a necklace.

One more thing to throw into the mix, Mother's Day is traditionally the busiest day of the year for restaurants so if that's the route you're taking you should consider reservations and book now.

Wait until you are somehow tied up with a MEXICAN mother. May 10 is Mexican mother's day. It never changes. Then, since we are living in 'Murica, there's Mother's Day. Now, you still aren't MY mother, but you don't get to celebrate TWO. I've repeatedly asked, when is the equivalent MEXICAN Father's day?

P.S. our anniversary in also May 10. . .

When I was scrolling quickly through the thread, I thought you said, "I prancercise in any festivities, and will TRY to keep my wife out of the kitchen/sink."

I cannot express how crushed my spirit is at this moment.

Would it be appropriate to prancercise at a funeral?

Asking for my brother.

Is it the funeral of a rancher, horse breeder or cattleman? If so, there is a thematically focused Prancercise expressly for that purpose. Witnesseth:

He (my uncle) is the only one of 11 who stayed and continued to run grandpa's milking farm. So yes, there were cattle. But we rode motorcycles, not horses.

SOOOO, should I DM you the video once I get there? Do you prefer mid-thigh, or calf length spandex?

I think for a husband to do something for his wife especially when they have young kids is perfectly fine - but I don't do anything for my sister for example.

What do you do when you know your boy/girl-friend is bad for you in everyway but just can't break up with them?

Have a good word with yourself and fuck em off before marriage, kids and houses enter the equation as it will be a whole lot more difficult then - and costly!

Become more self confident and stay for your own good alone until the next turn.

This. I speak from experience. Learn from my mistakes. 14 years, two children, a nasty divorce and financial crippling for the next 10 years followed suit. End it now and save yourself some headache. You may go without for a bit, but go without; it's better in the long run.

In the downtime, use your time wisely. Learn a new trade, go to the gym or learn to enjoy your own company. It will benefit you with the next lady you find. Also, no woman wants to be with a guy who can't break away from his ex.

I'm confident, it has nothing to do with that. Oh yeah and I'm definitely staying away from getting into anything financial or children with them. Maybe I just need to burn it off over time. But time is ticking...
